What is the difference between a 75 and 80 series steering box? (1 Viewer)

No you can not, not without a bunch of fabrication.

A 70-series box sits way forward and the pitman arm is backwards of an 80/105. Due to this the steering box operates 180* different than an 80.

You are better off looking to a 76/78/79 series box for a more direct swap.

Cheers

Bugger.

Note that post 2017 79 Ute steering box is different, 80s style.

Odd, 2018 box here and it is just like all the 1990’s boxes I have worked on. IE sits far forward and throws back with the pitman arm.

Cheers

Is that a direct swap or more mods are required?

So have you ever replaced the pitman arm oil seal without dismantling the steering box ? I'd like to be able to pull the pitman arm, remove the seal and
put in a new seal with the box in place. My steering it tight and I don't want to disassemble it if I don't have to.

Cheers, John

Probably doable, but I think it would be pretty tricky getting the old seal out. You will have to come up with a creative way to remove it. A new seal May or May not work since the wear surface May be worn enough that a new seal won’t seal. Maybe just install a new seal on top of the old one.

Just to clarify, this seems to apply only to the Australian market Single cab VDJ79 2017+ which has a total different thicker chassis, different cross member limiting lift kits due to the front drive shaft hitting, different steering arm locations, removal of the under cab front fuel tank, foam safety insersions under the floor mats, more padded seats with plastic adjustment handles, airbags in the A and B pillars all to pass a higher safety rating. The rest of the Aus 76 78 and 79 dc remain fairly unchanged still "safety wise" from earlier ones beside bigger bonnet scoop, h152 gbox, dpf, injector clamps external of the rocker covers.
Having a look at a UAE 2022 vdj79 single cab still has the small bonnet scoop, unexposed injector clamps, h150 gearbox on the vin and front and rear fuel tanks. Seems the rest of the market 79 single cabs are un changed or same as the pre 2017 AU spec 79 single cab.
