Did the first oil change on ours today. It did not go well. At all. Probably the worst simple oil change ive ever performed. Started with every single bolt in the skid plate being seized up. I couldn't budge any of them except one with the normal 8" ratchet that I use and the one that did budge went ahead and snapped off just to let me know how it felt about things.

Soaked them in some PB blaster hoping that would help. It helped a little but I still had to go through and clean up all the threads of the bolts and holes just so I could put things back together.

I pulled the drain bolt and wasn't expecting the amount of oil came out at a pretty good speed. It hit the drain pan I had set out and jumped right out, soaking the passenger wheel, LCA, and brakes. :bang:. Not to mention the nice oil stain free driveway ive managed to keep all these years. Luckily the oil filter housing was torqued to about 1,000ft.lb so that didn't add to the problem.

I seem to be getting better at turning 30 min jobs into 4 hour jobs. But it really makes me question whether the shop thats been doin my changes have actually been changing the oil filter. Those bolts in that skid plate were in the exact same shape at the other side. I don't see how they were able to remove it and get them back on every time.
Nothing but empathy from here for you. Now that you’ve done it once, there are some tips that may help in the future:

Antiseize on every skid plate bolt
Torque wrench for the filter (10 lbs for the drain and 20 lbs for the housing)
Drain hose for the filter
Fumoto valve for the drain plug

I’ve had this happen at a military installation hobby shop. The oil rode the rails of the lift and made a proper mess. It was supposed to be a quick job during lunch. Full change of clothes and 3 hours of paid time off later… “engineered rust-proofing.”

yea I kept looking for my bottle of anti-sieze but couldn't find it for the life of me. I guess I need to buy another one so I can find out where I set my other one down at. I had a Fumoto on a 4-runner we had and loved it. that'll be sooner rather than later investment.

Started removing the failing tint on my factory green glass ‘08. Undecided whether I’ll put tint back on or leave it. Kinda liking the green glass so far.

Our 14 pulled tow duty w the rented splitter. A bit of homesteading up here firewood is expensive! Got the wood spitter for the weekend for 120$ and neighbor next store cut down a bunch of oak trees. So I’ve been splitting a bunch of wood, Got like 2 cords split stoked! The big pile is my yard and I left the slitter on the 200 to split over at the neighbors house because the rounds were too heavy. Worked out great, I went back over in my 3 gen Tacoma and loaded up two big loads!

I too am able to turn seemingly mundane and routine tasks to complex and time vortices! I consider it a late blooming super power of sorts.

Did you make the requisite blood sacrifice to the car gods?

a couple of times. and a nice blister from running the bolts through the the die so many times.

Then success is ensured!

Ordered an ADGU dedicate kitchen unit today.

It is so funny, how grass is always greener.

Living in the suburb with 4 car garage and concrete driveway, I rather have more property and mountains and nature as is depicted in your photos

Yea I was going to say looks like a beautiful place to call home. Tough to beat northern California. Then again everything is beautiful compared to north Texas 😂😭
