Have you tried cleaning them and having a shop put a new clearcoat on them? I've seen this recommended online but have zero experience with it personally. Could be talking out of my a$$.

been thinking hard about this shelf…we sleep on our drawer systems and concerned about losing headroom

Same. Sleep in mine a ton during hunting season. Don't think my tall frame would take kindly to the loss of space.
You saw the one I had in the GX, I don't think you'd enjoy it with the height of your drawers and sleeping on top. For your setup I'd pass unless you get a RTT.

Towed some significant weight for the first time yesterday. The old 530i which belongs to a friend of mine needs a starter and some oil leaks taken care of. Every bit as stable as my Tundra was. Now the temptation for an off-road trailer is becoming very apparent.
We’ll be sleeping in this in about 2 months so no worries about the shelf getting in the way

Had a busy week tinkering on the 200. Wanted to knock out a few things as I just crossed 100,000 miles. This forum is fantastic. The writes ups And tutorials provided by the members are top notch. Couldn’t have done it without you all. Wanted to give a shout out to a few whos contributions to the forum helped make this all possible @NLScooby, @mark71, @Romer @linuxgod @Taco2Cruiser , I know I am also forgetting a bunch who also helped in this process.
I was able to find all the necessary instructions and info using the search function (what?!? Lol) to make things go as smoothly as possible.
Transmission fluid exchange. Swapped out the filter/screen and gasket. Switched from WS to Amsoil SS ATF but due to my bone headedness I ended up needing more then the 2.5 gallons for the exchange. Topped off with redline D6 ATF after needing to triple Check the fluid level and due to a miss placed crush washer.
Previously At 84,000 miles I Had my mechanic do a transmission fluid change but I had a feeling that only the pan was drained/ filled. Based on the color of the Old WS fluid it Sure looked like this was the case. Happy to report There is a noticeable shift improvement with the new Cherry red synthetic ATF.
Changed out the spark plugs for OEM/Denso’s. They looked fairly used but all within gap / spec. Fortunately no oil on the coil boots. This had me nervous based on what I have been reading here. The bottom portion of the spark plug threading had a small amount of a gummy oil like residue on them. Accessing the rear passenger side plug was the most challenging but still easy to change following the Instructions posted here my the wonderful folks of Mud.
Proactively swapped out the MAF, simple two screw process on the intake Tube.
Installed full bud built skids (aluminum front and SS for the Rest.) Also added their rear shock guards. Beautiful system, super stout and what fun to install those heavy beasts lying on your back with just basic tools and a jack.
After all this I recorded 16.8 mpgs on the hwy, and when taking into account the larger tires it makes it right around 17.5 mpgs with a dedicated hwy tire: Nokian One HT Lt275/70R18. When I am running my Kenda RTs I don’t think I have ever seen above 15mpgs.

It is very subjective, but is louder then expected, frankly not so happy
