This has got to be one of the best and cheapest mods you can go that greatly improves quality of life when you're in the truck
Are those brand new bits of plastic trim surrounds? Did you need to buy them seperately. Wondering if they are a part of the job. Mine would be fine I think to be reused if not. My windscreen is currently being done now. Not an insurance replacement but he's managing to keep the costs down. Getting him to do some other paint repair as well (hopefully if he's not sick of it after this job).Yesterday was my appointment day at the glass shop I was recommended to replace my cracked windshield. They went to bat with my insurance company and got approval for OEM glass and trim. They brought me in the back, we talked everything over before they started work and have done many of these and are familiar with all the usual issues.
They said this level of rust is typical of what they see on a 100 and in all the usual suspect areas. And, compared to some of the carnage I've seen on here, not bad at all. It was all ground back to bare metal, prepped, treated, and primed before the new glass and trim went in. Everything went back in proper and by the book, the new Toyota glass is amazing compared to the POS that was in there before. When I picked it up, the techs waved me into the service bay and BS'd with me for about half an hour, we talked all about these trucks, their quirks, the ins and outs of auto glass in general. They also showed me all the Sika products they use to bond everything in and what they've learned at auto glass conventions over the years. All pretty cool stuff and I'm glad to have another project crossed off and know that I'm good to go for years now.

Yes, I asked the glass shop to order all new trim, sides and top, OEM rivets, and the rubber inserts that cover the rivets on the side trim. Mine had been clearly reused for the previous glass repair and were deformed and ugly. The shop provided a dam kit, which I was fine with.Get'er done properly
The side trims are usually replaced with the glass, and are usually provided by the glass guy.
Is this a gx conversion kit??
Maybe I missed an earlier post, but where did you find this?? Did you import? I google GX conversation kit* and nothing came up?
which press kit did you use?I did allot of research prior to diving in. Not something I was thrilled to do, however CV were throwing grease, ball joints needing replaced, diff bushings shot.
Decided to just replace the lower arm and diff bushing assemblies instead of pressing new bushings which saved a ton of time (not $).
Highly recommend purchasing a press kit as it would have been a nightmare having to search parts stores for rentals mid job.
# 2 bushing presses back in on both sides with little effort after cleaning the opening with 2” wire wheel attached to drill.
Don’t forget to mark your ride height before disassembly.
Overall, truck rides fantastic after the refresh.

If they don't mind you providing your own parts, Partsouq has them much cheaper than the local dealer, as usual.
Swap from AT to MT?
Very nice! Will it have the factory tire carrier too?
Yes. Basically borrowing a few ideas from my 80 series and applying to the 100 series platform.Swap from AT to MT?
Another option would be to delete the rivet holes and trim completely. If not satisfied, could add the holes, rivets and trim back in.WIndscreen guys said that they drill those rivet holes bigger to fit the large screws. How destructive and ridiculously lazy.
But he also said he'll leave it to the winscreen guys , they know what they are doing.
I told him aluminium screws or bigger rivets. The guy doing the rust/spray paint repair said the original rivets have a plastic coating and they spray the hole/screw with the same stuff as well.
Might just call that guy and tell him to make sure whoever does it does it right. Would be a shame to have his work ruined by some dodgey windscreen installer.
Yes, I was very intrigued by the side trim delete with the Tacoma upper molding. In the end, I think that will wait until I'm ready for a repaint (if ever). I should be good for quite a few years now. But @highkick05 definitely insist on having the new glass and trim installed properly if you're going to all this effort. If the holes aren't already oversized, they should use the factory rivets. If they've been drilled out, I'd see if you can find some larger plastic coated rivets. I just don't see how you'd get a self tapping screw in without scraping off whatever edge of the hole is prepped and primed with, and there's the beginnings of the rust again.Another option would be to delete the rivet holes and trim completely. If not satisfied, could add the holes, rivets and trim back in.

Rust Windshield Fix Rivet Delete Tacoma Molding
Couple things I learned about the 100 series before I bought one - doesn't pass too many gas stations, heater t's, cup holders are garbage and the riveted molding on the windshield is shameful. I bought my 2000 and there appeared to be a bit of surface rust on the edge of the windshield frame...forum.ih8mud.com
