this isn't right
Good! I was very disappointed in Toyota.

I would guess that there should be a nice thick coating of reflective material on the back inside face of the sealed beam. There isn't.

what year rig? looks like the coating on the rear of the headlight is gone.

It's a '78 model/'77 production.

Did my kick vents, doors, and ambulance doors weatherstripping with City Racer weatherstripping. Was messier and more awkward than I expected. But is a really nice improvement.

Replaced my halogen sealed beams with LED projectors, and what an improvement! I set them up with the cutoff at .5 degrees below the centerline. That puts me just a hair lower than the DOT .4 degrees spec. I figure I can always adjust up, but I hate getting blinded by all the jeeps with poorly adjusted aftermarket lights.

Got my 80 in for a few spa days. Doing a knuckle and a front diff rebuild. The front diff has been howling for the better part of the last year and I've been waiting for it to explode. Dug in yesterday morning got the knuckles torn down, cleaned and the diff removed. As usual I ran into a few issues that I was not expecting. After 336k miles and many many years of abusive wheeling the spindles are toast on both sides. Also found a knuckle studs hanging in by one thread!

After a round trip to Durango for some wheeling I decided I wanted an armrest! Also 4 days on the trail led to an alternator death so I swapped for a new one, upgraded the wiring and grounds. While the battery was out built a new battery tray.

*Side note does anyone in our neck of the woods rebuild alternators?

I think (fingers crossed) I finally plugged up all the coolant leaks on my 40. There are still a couple oil leaks and those will be my next focus. I also picked up a bottle of shielding gas for my TIG so I can get started on cancer treatments over the coming snowy months. I'm still having some cooling issues at low speed, so I think I may ditch the engine driven fan and go to an electric.

edit: It seems I spoke too soon. It's leaking coolant again.

i've got an electric fan and shroud for the 40 radiator you can try before you buy one. my gut tells me it wont help but might as well try before you buy

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I'll DM you.

an electric fan will just be masking the real issue, a good shape cooling system will not overheat at any speed.
these rigs run around in the desert and the worst envirorments and don't overheat.

Mine deviated from stock 1.7 liters and 2 cylinders ago. Mr. Toyota and his engineers never anticipated that. So it's a "new" problem to solve. I say "new" because people have been doing V8 swaps in 40's for a long time. There's a lot of variation in the way swaps get done. Mine got some things right, but certainly not everything. So it's left to me to figure out which set of variables will result in the performance I'm looking for.

Beautiful state! Never been but would love to go there one year. My brother told me he would like to visit as well not to long ago. He’s lives around Pensacola,Fl
