I have an 82 fj60, can anyone tell me what gearing am I currently running? Also will the stock diff. gearing run 33's or 34's should I change it? Thanks in advance.

You have 3.55 first gear, 3.70 R&P and 2.276 Low in the T-case.

I was running 33X12.50s on my stock FJ60 with no problems. I did not like the overall low though with the change. You would be better off with at least 4.10s. I just switched to 4.56s, a little low on the road for 33s but this weekend HOPEFULLY I will test them in the dirt and see how that is :D

best of both worlds...

I have 4.10s and 33's in my 60 and love it. It's still a DD for me and weekend wheeler. I'll admit I have the 5spd and and it's a joy to drive on the highway (70mph at 2500 rpm) and I can still wheel comfortably...especially with that ever so slightly lower 1st.

So...if you can, I'd recommend at least 4.10 if you're committing to 33's. - 'cuz basically, once you do that, you'll be thinking, Damn! How do I get 35's under there!

LOL, hence my 4.56s cause I already want a true 34 or a 35X12.50 :D

did you switch out the R&P on your own or did you have a shop do it?

I did everthing expect for the gear set up. I found a guy that works on the side sometimes that I trusted. He set up the R&P and I put the chunks back in and rebuilt the axles and installed the Lockright.

me, I'm an idiot...and a wuss...

....and at the same time I was adding the ARB lockers - I had someone do it. I'm about 2-3 on a shade-tree mechanic scale of 1-10 and couldn't bring myself to struggle with it on my DD. And the peace of mind is great for someone like me who would always be wondering..."did I do that right?". Slee Off-Road is where I had it done - I couldn't be happier, and think those guys are the best! I talked it over with them ad-nauseum and they steered me in the right direction for my uses, etc...

I picked up some used 3rds from 62s (fronts) and had them set up the lockers, then put them in the Cruiser from there.

I hate to do this to ya'...if you're thinking about re-gearing, NOW is the time to do lockers if you want them. I honestly collected and sat on parts for over a year and a half so I could save the $$ and get all the right parts and therefore I only had to pay someone to do it once.

just my $.02...Oh and you'll love ARB lockers ;-)

Thanks you are right....will definitely do the lockers if I re-gear.

i re-geared with 4.56 and i am runnig 35s, it puts me right back to stock...sucks on the highway rules on the rocks...

i re-geared it myself with the help of some mud members over the phone shooting tips to me.....its not all that hard just takes a lil time..... i give it

When my HJ-60was on 33" I try with my stocks 3.70 good highway economy. With 4.11 the best overall setup .. and with 4.56 good in off road .. good in the city, but to low in highway .. as same as now
