Installed snazzy new heat shields. Installed front driveline with new U-joints, now correctly clocked. 4krpm+ vibration remains. May pull rear D/L tomorrow and see what it does. After that I either put it in a shop or live with it for the year.

Well, today is going fun. First, the Landcruiser moved, and drove down the street, under its on power. This is where the fun begins. My exhaust rubbed on the rear tire a little, so I tried bashing it with a BFH. Didn’t work. So I’m redoing my tailpipe. I had followed the old exhaust pattern, but went up 1/2” diameter. Also, my turbo is boosting 28psi on the gate. I ordered it to be 17-18, and I would control it with my electronic boost controller.

We are supposed to be driving up the Lakes Basin tomorrow for a shake down. At this point, I’m not sure if that is going to happen.

Not the prettiest, but functional. Now to address the waste gate issue, and I’m over fueling. I’m turning out the main fuel screw a 1/2 turn, and adjusting the fuel pin up a little. It’s making power, but it’s not like I’d assume it would.

Did a bunch of little things this weekend. Installed the new to me left driver side and dual center a/c registers I got off the 94 at pnp. No more floppy vents! I installed the NSS cover on the shifter too. Finally I got tie-down anchors installed so I can secure camping gear and tools.

I'll be wrapping up the aux light rewiring next weekend so everything goes through the sPOD Bantam instead of the melted wiring the PO did.

Ok, today was a little better. I drove 135 miles today with the family. Found out that my boost controller took a crap, and my new silicone vacuum hose to the gate had a restriction. So now I have the gate hooked directly to the compressor housing and I’m at 18.5 psi. I would like it to be around 22. Also I’m still hitting around 1250 egt, pre turbo, going up to the Lakes Basin from Graeagle. That long pull out me up on fluid temps too. Water hit 231, and oil 239. IAT, post intercooler, was 150ish. It cooled down really quickly once we got to the top.
Not sure what my mpg was, but didn’t use barely over 1/4 tank. I don’t really know what size the tank is, but I believe that it’s the same as all the 80s at 25 gallons. I have never put more than 19.5 in it with the light on for 30 miles.
We did drive in a little bit towards Little Gold Lake to see how the low range was working. I did click the lockers in. The rear sensor might be bad, because it never stops blinking. It definitely works though. I might be a tooth off though, I get a little sound when disengaging it. Sounds like a rubbing/clicking sound, but went away after turning back and forth while driving. The front works great! Engages quickly and disengages smoothly.
Even after quickly rebuilding the tailpipe, it still rubbed the tire when fully flexed out. This time a hammer will work.

Overall, today was good. Finally driving it after seeing sit in the garage for basically 4 months. Also met a fellow 80 owner (actually this was the first time I had ever seen another 80 while driving mine!) in Portola. He’s out of SF, and is a member of the the local TLCA.

Removed rear driveline and drove on only the front, the vibration remains.
Also figured out the driveline shop was wrong when they told me the driveshaft had been clocked wrong.
They clocked it the way most driveshafts look and rebalanced, so now I have a new vibration at a different speed.
So now I get to put the rear back in, pull the front, and take it back to the shop to have them un-reclock and un-rebalance it.

As an aside, it sure seems like paying for expertise never works out for me.

Playing at the shop today. Both sway bars still attached. 35” still have 4” of compression ( 2” away from the sumo spring bump) on the front shock, and 3 1/2” on the rear (compressing the sumo spring)

After yesterday’s adventure, it was obvious that I needed to change my tailpipe. Tailpipe #3 is done, and added a resonator. It muffles it out a little bit when off idle. Also installed my trans cooler, and trans filter.

Completed potty training on the FJ40 thanks to Martec Engineering, no more puddle under the rear Diff!!!!!!!!
Nice for the new garage floor! Now lets run it over some more rocks to see how well they fixed it. Can't wait to get out there again with ya.

Still looking good JDMRedhead. Always wonder how long those fans last under there with all the crap we run them thru.

Well, I’ll find out. Derale has a good warranty. I did get it 50% off from Amazon open box deals. I only paid $175, I can always get a new fan.

That's unfortunately my weekend to be on call for work. I might be able to trade out though. It would be good for me to get up there, wife drew a northern Washoe deer tag, and I don't know a ton about that area.

It should be a blast! The event is not an all or nothing thing, you can come in and meet us any day and leave any day if you can't or don't want to do the entire thing.

I love that tent trailer where did you find it?
I've had the trailer for like 6 years, about half done, it's just a crappy old M100. The tent is very cool. I scored it from a guy named Patrick in Reno who used to drag it behind his 40 series on a M416 trailer. He said he bought it in the 90s from the guy who was building them. Getting the tent lit my fire to finish the trailer. I'm really excited to use it this weekend.

That trip should be a great time. Ive been through some of that stuff, it's all great up there. I'll see what I can do about trading my on call out.

Stead Maverick to Ely She’ll station. 18.17mpg. Not bad on 35’s and pushing the wind. Staying cool too. This was pulling a hill outside Ely at 64mph.
