I’m with you on the morphing out of control. Mine started as just changing diff oils, now it’s up to: gears, shafts, knuckle rebuild, knuckle studs (1 broke on disassembly), pads and rotors, brake hoses, new turbo, new intercooler couplers, timing kit, water pump, trans cooler, catch can, exhaust, injector seals, glow plugs, fuel filter housing, relocating the boost controller, and I’m sure that I missed some. This thing’s killing me.
I got my trunnion bearings and went straight to work to get her put back together. 4 minutes into the first knuckle reassembly and this happened:

I was just beginning to snug up the bottom trunnion nuts when this one went pop. I don’t think I even had 25 pounds on the wrench when it came free. All things considered, I know I should be thankful I found the problem here and not on the trail ... but dang! I gotta catch a break at some point.
... this was just supposed to be a pads and rotors job. Now it’s morphed into pads, rotors, brake lines, knuckle rebuild, wheel bearings, tie rods, and now ... knuckle studs.
What year is your cruiser? I remember somebody using a Celica canister on a 100 series back in the day. Toyota used a lot of the same purge parts in different canisters. Just wish I remembered what the guy did to retrofit it.I think I should deal with this

I bought a set of Powerstop 100 series front pads and the noise shim was wrong for my pistons. Either the 100 series front pistons are closer together, or the pads were mislabeled. The Powerstop 80 series pads have done great though.
Good idea but I already have a used one.Did you consider trying a salvage yard part? You could probably get 4 of them for that price.
I replaced all the studs when I did my 40 to mini truck knuckle conversion, cheap insurance. This thing’s killing me.

Cruiser Outfitters actually told me not to use ARPTime f
Time for ARP studs!

knuckle studs
I know. And now I’ve torn off the power steering low pressure hoses in an attempt to chase a minor leak.Scaring me Lee! I'm about to do pads and rotors on mine...
It just leads to stripping out the threads of the knuckle, instead of breaking the studs. I guess, you usually end up with a junk knuckle. Kurt was pretty vocal about not using them. And the reason?
I am not familiar with ARP studs. What grade are they?It just leads to stripping out the threads of the knuckle, instead of breaking the studs. I guess, you usually end up with a junk knuckle. Kurt was pretty vocal about not using them.
