This just popped up on my You tube feed coincidence?

That's a good video. Too bad there is no such thing as a light weight Land Cruiser!

He mentions some things you can do to cut down on the weight of an overland rig near the end.

Well time for some diagnostics fun for me on Alita...
Got a P0171 CEL this weekend. Used MAF cleaner and cleaned the MAF multiple times and replaced the Air Filter (was needed) and still getting it.
So now to move on to other stuff as there is no definitive for the code. Could still be MAF but trying to see what it could be without spending a grip of money at the moment.

I'd go for the O2 sensors, if they aren't bad already they are overdue. IIRC there are four sensors, two are easy and the other two require copious profanities to replace.

Yeah that is one of the things on the list.
Based on the research P0171 tends to lean towards either dirty/malfunctioning MAF or Bank 2 O2 sensor.

I found some info on what the MAF range should be so I will pull techstream up tonight and see if I can figure out any more diagnostics.

MAF is definitely low fruit, 5 minute job. I include it in my spring/fall service.

I finished the front spring install. I'm going to look at how it sits before I attack the rear. Meanwhile in have many years and many additions to the wiring that have resulted in a cluster f#$& of battery connections.

I remember when I finished helping Chicago wire Matty, It looked so nice and neat all loomed up, then I looked under my hood and saw the result of years of additions to the wiring. I think it's time to clean things up a bit.

Yeah I am going to call Carson Toyota to see if they have one in stock. Don't really want to throw a LAPS one on there if I don't have too.

Last night I finally got a chance to play with things a bit. No apparent broken or badly aged vacuum lines that would make for a vacuum leak.
Pulled out the laptop and ran Techstream and came up with a freeze frame stating "P0171 - Fuel Trim too lean" so not sure if this means that the MAF is going out or if that is more to do with injectors or coils. No noted misfires or anything like that that I have been able to see but Techstream wasn't wanting to play nice and kept crashing on me (v13.00) when I could try to pull up the monitors.

Since I am going on a trip starting tomorrow and I will have to fill up the tank, I will throw a can of seafoam in the tank to see if possibly one of the injectors is dirty/bad. Trying to think if there was anything that happened with regards to changes and the only thing that comes to mind is that I need to change the oil (doing tonight) and I filled up at the local Costco, which I almost never do. Unless Costco got a bad batch of gas, I have never had any issues with their fuel when I have filled up there.

Finally had a day off yesterday, it’s been 3 weeks!

First thing, I helped a friend replace his ball joints and fronts CVs on his 08 4Runner, then I had a hour to weld up my exhaust. I also cleaned up some of the welds and wrapped it in DEI titanium. When I went to install it, I realized that it shrank about 1/4” overall. Now I’m going to have to bend the rear hangers a little bit for it to fit. I was careful, I thought, about not getting it too hot and allowing it to cool before going on to the next weld. Oh well, it looks the part.

Man I need to get a nicer exhaust for my FZJ80... Mine sounds like a freaking motorboat thanks to the PO. I'd like to quieter her down just a bit and know that the system is sound.

Got my seats installed on Friday and took them out yesterday on our Sunday drive. I'm not a fan of the racer look, but man they are comfy... So function over form I suppose.

Yeah, I’m not going to be that quite. It’s not really loud, it’s just not quite. Sounds like a good exhaust on a 12 valve Cummins. And I like your seats. I put in JDM STI seats, and we sit too high. I’m just going to go with it for a while.

An hour after cleaning things up and getting the cage mounted...

I'm going to buy an NOS bezel so I don't have to look at that little red bulb some asshat decided to install in a faux button blank. :cautious:

Got the cluster out and replaced all the bulbs with 3030 chipset LEDs.

I need to find the wee ones for the PRNDL, O/D Off, ECT, and Manual indicators. I think they are Type A???

I strongly recommend replacing incandescent with LED. This site has always been good to me LED Lights, Bulbs & LED Lighting Accessories | superbrightleds.com - https://www.superbrightleds.com/

When we got mine home, we went through the wiring. We deleted all of the Japanese toll transponders, tons of useless lights (including the ones blocking the intercooler and radiator), and lots of speakers & amps. Being that mine was a show truck in the 90’s, you can guess how it was wired.
All told, over 90lbs of wiring deleted!

I purged the wiring on my FJ40 probably 15 years ago. Since then I have replaced it many layers of modifications of my own. On the short list is to clean my all those years of additions and modifications.
