My carb behaves the same...I believe it is improper functioning choke opener, but haven't been able to prove it. If I do a carb tune-up, as I reset the fast-idle at the last step, it will hold steady at 1,800 rpm (with the choke fully set)...but then go to start it the next morning and that strange symptom returns...starts fine, but right after begins to decel/stumble a little so I have to push the choke in to 1/2 way.

Well there goes my theory. I was thinking that if the choke breaker wasn't working then when you started it up on full choke it would fire but then die because the engine couldn't get enough air. If you have the same symptoms with partial choke then it isn't that though.
They are easier to hit with the air horn off, but if you've got super powers you can hit 'em through those plugs at the base of the fuel bowl.
Might also consider hitting the 4 vac ports on the PS base of the carb...and even the fuel inlet (where the screen is, so be careful there)...you could remove the idle mixture screw and spray that down (where needle valve assembly is) and if you had a real fancy red straw that curves (like the one sold with Seafoam), you might be able to get the ports in the walls of the primary and secondary barrels...

Could that be the decel solenoid? CCOT has them and they're not 'spensive.

Hm. Maybe that's my problem. Then again that's a spankin' new solenoid and it ran/started fine until the weather cooled off.
Got back to my parents house to fetch the 62 and get new tires on it. The shop ordered the wrong ones though

OOOOhhhhh... do tell on what you used on the wheels. Mine are slightly rusty but would like to clean them up and possibly coat them in the Never Wet stuff.
All it took was about 15 minutes per wheel with the wire wheel on the drill and wiped them down with acetone after. Way less work than I was expecting!
Began the tear down... The "while I'm in there" list is growing.

@LATechCruiser Just a normal wire wheel or did you find one that was a smaller grit (if that is a thing with wire wheels)?
Hopefully the problem is just the crank pulley/harmonic balancer. If so, I will be putting it back together and running it fr a while. A friend of mine found me 2 free small block chevys so I plan on building one of them and gathering parts for the swap.
I bought another 1985 tan one just before the weekend. Towed it back home from Sacramento to SoCal. Changed the starter, plugs git it smogged and had a new flowmaster muffler installed. Then I talked my wife into detailing it. Tomorrow I'm picking up parts from Ruffstuff to do soa/ct.
just installed my dual battery painless system and about to convert to the cs144 alternator when it shows up should be fun if i don't burn it down.
