What did you do with your 60 this weekend? (28 Viewers)

Appreciate the reply...great detail. This is going to be a remarkably dumb question. but i'm just so unaware, You inflate them with? what exactly? Do you have an air compressor on your rig? Hows that work? thanks. ohhhh I read @wngrog thread just now, in the middle...hes using the Boss kit as well. They look hefty...
The BOSS kit has 2 types for the 60. 2 bag or 3 bag, not to be confused with the actual number of units, but number of chambers in the bag. As I understand it the 3 bag is for lifts greater than 2”. So choose the right one. And watch your rear soft brake lines, mine are at their limit (I have some extended ones on order). I do have an air compressor in my rig that hooks to my battery, but you can fill them with any compressed air setup (i.e. gas stations, a buddy’s compressor, heck I’ve even heard of people using bicycle pumps!). Just have a good air gauge so you don’t over inflate or under inflate. I would have to go back and look for the max inflation numbers. But I do know they recommend leaving at least 5 psi in them even when unloaded to help from pinching the bags between the upper and lower mounting plates. I’m attaching a link to the compressor I have, but you could get by with a cheaper one, because these bags don’t need a powerful compressor to inflate them. If you have any other questions message me and I’ll help you out if I can. I say go for it, for what they are capable of, the ease of install and for what they do, I feel the price is a steal. Especially compared to swapping in another leaf to my setup.

Pulled the oil pan to weld in a bung for the oil return line from the turbo. Came apart fairly easy and the gasket just pulled right off. The more I do to this rig the more impressed I am of it's condition, and there was no sludge in the pan at all.

Reinstalling was not as easy, first tried with the gasket on the oil pan, zip tied in 6 spots but that was a complete fail as the rear arch of the gasket just would not get into the groove on the block. 2nd attempt I zip tied the gasket to the block and that actually went really well.

Installed BOSS airbags from SloCruisers. If any of you carry added weight on a daily basis, I highly recommend this setup. Although not for everyone or every application, but for what I do in my rig, this was one of the better mods I have done. Super, super easy install, parts are superior quality and all parts were accounted for (with extras) and packaged and labeled great. Instructions are a bit lacking, but once you unbox and lay everything out, the install couldn’t be easier (a bit easier if you had a lift I guess), but very doable on a creeper. The ride is so much better, mine is an ‘84 without the rear sway bar. I was actually going to fab up the brackets and such to install a rear sway bar, but now with the air bags the body roll is very minimal as is the road walking boat feeling. I was also thinking about an add a leaf in the rear (went OME light/medium, should have gone with the HEAVY kit) but now with the air bags I can dial in the rear lift as needed. I’m pretty heavy with a rear swing out, fuel can, water can and then probably another 150# of gear in the rear, roof rack, awning, etc. and probably more to come. I’m running ~25 psi. I love the ability to adjust based on weight/no weight. Highly recommended! First 2 pictures are before, the rest are after.

This looks awesome, nice work and thanks for the write up! I have OME heavy but I’m sagging when loaded for a trip so I’m gonna order these. The reduced body roll will be very nice too.

Can I install these with just hand tools in a parking lot? I don’t have access to my usual shop at the moment. Looks like the ubolts have to be loosened?

Well, was getting ready to rebuild my knuckles when I discovered my front brakes are shot. Passenger side caliper malfunctioned and ate the inside of the rotor. It started making noise but I had no idea it was this bad. Funny thing is, it didn't pull or act weird. I did notice a clicking sound on the White Rim with @ntdb. So any advice on new calipers and rotars? Cruiser Outfitters are out of stock on OEM rotars.

think i replaced mine with Bremobos

Today was the charcoal canister day, I made it harder than it need to be by wanting to keep all the original stuff in good condition in case I ever refresh the oem can. Used some Simpson strong tie strapping, longer 8mm bolts, pex for spacers,

and hurricane tie for VCV. Truck starts faster from sitting a week, and seems to run better (might be my imagination). The OEM can did not pass the test.
Last weekend was the easy stuff, 3D printed sun-visor clips from cruiser head , Hood strut mod, & snake blinder reinstall with all new hardware.

I just restuck my oil pan and new gasket...sticking the gasket to the block first is definitely the way to go to ensure it sits in the bearing cap grooves. Used long threaded studs for alignment, it was still a b!tch getting the first couple bolts started, they're so damn short!

You could install in a parking lot with the right tools. Yes you have to support the leaf springs and loosen the nuts, you don’t have to take the u bolt completely off, loosened enough you can slide the mounting bracket under the u bolts. These will fix your sag, no doubt. Easy install, you got it!

I need to do this soon myself. Curious on the Strong Tie, were those already formed circular or did you have to form them that way somehow? If so curious how. Nice install.

Bottle jack, breaker bar, socket set. What else could you ever need? 😁

Have you considered this? Brake Upgrade - The Tundra Mod

I recently did the front brake upgrade on mine and it is definitely everything it's cracked up to be.

I used some studs for alignment too, and also used some longer bolts to initially get it tightened up enough to get the normal bolts started, that helped alot. I also use Permatex copper spray gasket sealant on all the surfaces. Except for the botched attempt with the gasket on the pan it actually went pretty well.

Seems like a pretty involved mod. Do you mind sharing how much it cost you in dollars and hours?
It wasn't cheap. To save time I just bought the kit from FROR that is based on the 5th gen 4Runner rotors and calipers.

The thread I referenced in the previous post lays out everything you need to source all the parts yourself and possibly save some money.
This thread is also extremely good: 80 series rear axle with front axle Tundra brake mod

It took a full day.
