Dang, look how dry and hazy Oregon is! I haven't gotten out at all this season. Definitely the driest summer I've experienced here in the last 20 yrs.

Flying VW's., daring and crazy stuff. However, just like the Landcruisers, you see VW's all over the world in all kinds of environments.
Because we helped the Axis powers rebuild.

Making room for another homemade front bumper, this one would not accommodate my 10k ComeUp winch

Finishing my power steering system refresh and royally screwed the pooch.... successfully failed rules #1 and #2... but #3 is an easy one to adhere to...

Also, I killed a DieHard AGM battery.... with a cell phone🤦‍♂️ Last year i mistakenly bought and installed a marine battery designed for a slow trickle charge... somehow it’s managed to stay alive for a year. This past week it croaked. I have it on a trickle charger now, but we will see how much life it has after the rest of the afternoon. If it’s still viable I may use it for a solar panel system I’ve been thinking of for the past year.

You mean they have batteries built specifically for trickle chargers? I had a DieHard for 7 years on a "smart" trickle charger while I lived overseas. Only drove the truck a few weeks out of the year, but the battery worked like a champ and it always started.

Apparently... that’s what I was told. I bought this battery and installed it a year ago. It’s been 100% fine. I have the truck parked while I’m doing a bunch of work and I used the battery to charge my phone for a week or so and the battery dropped down to 6v and then stopped charging the phone. I figured it would be okay and brought it to advanceauto (where I bought it) to have them recharge it. They about had a cow when I told them I’ve been running it in my truck. The guy said it’s designed to take a 4-5v trickle charge and not 14v from an alternator. Who knew? Like I said, been running fine for a year now. Never dropped below 11.8v when I was driving regularly.

I gotcha...kinda makes sense now that you describe the situation. In my case I had a regular car battery that was OK with a trickle charger, but you had one that IS NOT ok with a 14V alternator. I guess rule # 3 applies.

Yeah that’s the name of the game this weekend... unfortunately...

That's hogwash. The difference in the batteries is not how they're charged, it's that a true deep cycle does not have the construction to provide the starting amps for the truck, it may work for awhile but it won't last. Deep cycles are designed to provide sustained power over longer periods of time vs starting batteries providing a high amount of power in short bursts. I've got 4 big 6 volt batteries at my camp and 400 watts of solar power, they put out 18 volts and in full sun can pump 25+ amps into the batteries, these are real off grid type batteries and that's not a trickle charge. I usually get 8-10 good years out of them. Btw Advance guy's an idiot, how can you charge a 12v battery with 4-5 volts lol.

My thoughts exactly. I just nodded and let them put it on the charger and then proceeded to drink today.. lol
