I believe the quote was $160.00 to rebuild it. This does not include shipping.

Since doing the Vortec swap my truck's steering seems to be suffering from the additional pressure produced by the new GM PS pump. Very wayward on the highway, easily led astray by ruts, etc. Didn't seem an issue before but I believe the gear box is shot.

Got a few other things planned for it that should greatly improve handling. Will post up as it comes together.

You mentioned "wayword" steering on the highway. Check the castor angle on the front end. The V8 is much lighter than the 2f and likely sits towards the rear farther than 2f also.

The rebuilt steering box will be nice, and correct castor will mame steering really nice.

This past week got new brakes all the way around, new front calipers, all new brake and clutch fluid, found and fixed some tiny leaks on my ARB compressor, relocated the coolant overflow bottle, tightened springs in TRE's, centered steering wheel with the drag link adjustment, LED back up lights, full grease job, changed out center vents with the closeable type used on the outer vents, new Odyssey battery, torqued U Bolts, new air filter. Cant think of anything else to do now but head to the back country.

Edit......ARB now holds pressure indefinitely. Finally!

Why did you retorque the u-bolts (axle to leaf springs?) ?
I always check them after some heavy duty spring flexing as they are fairly new Ubolts. Usually they are fine but every now and again I can get them to turn a bit. This time they tightened up more than usual but it has been a long time since I checked them. I have the 4plus products u bolt flip kit on mine.

Pix of overflow bottle relocation and reason?

I ran out of space with the second battery and ARB compressor. Used 1.5 inch aluminum L and fitted it to the two bolts for the charcoal cannister

Knocked out a few more baseline items.

-Changed engine oil, filter
-Greased anything I could grease
-Changed diff oil (front, rear, transfer case)
-Replaced spark plugs and wires (distributor cap on the way from @beno )
-Flushed brake fluid
-Replaced all 4 soft brake lines (just in time it seems)

Truck is starting to feel a bit better...not exactly like new, but a couple steps closer. Was feeling pretty proud of myself and all I got done until I read the post from @Bear Lake Cruiser above. Sheesh!

That's a good point, Doug.

The good news is I have a suspension lift coming in the next few weeks and the castor will be addressed then. That with the rebuilt gear box should make a big difference.

Cheers

Ed what lift you going with?

Going with Terrain Tamer. Plan is to have Georg install the complete set up including castor correction shims, brake lines, etc. Pretty excited to get it going.

I'll definitely post up when it happens.

Completed A pillar grab bar handle install, changed fuel filter and the 30 amp Heater/AC breaker fuse. Turned on AC full blast, blew breaker in 15 minutes. [emoji53]

That's a great mod. A-Pillar handle is so useful. Did you use rivnuts or just tap the sheet metal?

Trouble shooting my in cab winch control. I'm changing/updating my switch box and now the power switch is operational but the winch won't spool in/out.

I've been saving up for a few weeks. Two of my sons got me a winch for christmas which I installed right away, skipped a week then went out to try it out but, couldn't get stuck. Then this evening one of my son's friends called and I got to go use the winch to pull a jeep out of a hole.
