Brought my first one home a couple weeks ago. Changed tcase fluids and rear diff fluids, rewired a wiring harness (correctly) for the alpine head unit someone installed. Sound is much better and more speakers are working than before (rear driver still not working but will start looking to see if it was blown and unplugged at some point or if amp is going (non MLS)). Correct climate control unit should arrive in mail today, looks like a po installed one from the wrong generation trying to fix ac issue. Found one pulled from a wrecked rig with the same build month and year as mine. Should work as I understand it. Will have a 70 climate control unit for sale if anyone is needing one. Diagnosing front end growl/groan sound now, thinking wheel bearings.

Performed my first 5 tire rotation after installing the tire carrier. Should be nice getting 25% more miles out of the set. Or is it 20% more? Someone with a math degree answer that please.

Personally i dont rotate on 4wd cars. I have found it screws up the alignment. If you like it thats all that matters. I also work from home abd tend to expire tires before wearing them down so do whats right for you and ignore me.

Funny story... I got on the highway today and I now I have a balance issue in the front end. On my old tires I rotated front to back and never had issues rotating the four that way.

Finally got my first GX. 2003 470 in Ash Blue Mica with 115k miles. Has some cosmetic blems but not bad at all. Drive train is immaculate and it is buttery smooth, definitely kept up on maintenance.

Today, installed Grom BT3, removed old XM wiring that included the sketchiest charging method (braided lamp wire spliced poorly into the 12v lighter wiring, and electrical taped to the terminals of the charger. No idea if it worked…) and plastidipped the grill for a cleaned up look.

Excited to get started on the real fun in the near future…

If rotating your tires screws up your “alignment” on your vehicle, then tires aren’t the problem. A small patch of rubber shouldn’t bend metal.
I have known wheel-tire combos that have had hidden flaws that weren’t apparent on a solid rear axle that got exposed on a rotation to from rear-to-front with IFS. Also, totally independent suspensions in which sn “alignment” was WAY off and the screwy tire tread ended up leaving an offset camber after rotation. I would be interested in the mechanical explanation of a tire rotation affecting an otherwise good alignment.

Tires dont wear evenly, thats why people rotate them in the first place. If your car drives straight with 8mm of tread on the left and 4mm of tread on the right and you switch those tires your car is gonna pull left afterwards.

Replaced rear airbags with Arnott bags and working on wiring in KC cyclone lights to replace the lights that were on my running boards. Removed running boards. Ordered one cyclone for each side (2 total) with the magnet mount kit. Solid magnet, definitely will not be going anywhere. I think one per side will be plenty bright.

Next up I need to troubleshoot a "B0111 - Open in Side Squib Circuit" airbag fault I got while driving cross-country.
Over the past 2 days, for the first time the airbag lights were not blinking, at least not during my morning commute. While I did not do anything, it has been below freezing temperatures and that is really the only thing that has changed exactly when the lights were off. They started blinking again when it was warmer today. Apparently it's an expensive harness repair, I just can't find any details of which harness it is exactly, let alone where it's located. On a side note, I coated parts of the underbody in preparation for the winter. Not sure I used the best stuff as it came in a rattle can.

If you’ve removed your running boards but would like to retain your puddle light functionality, I found the KC Cyclone lights with the magnetic mount to work really well. A little expensive at about $100 total but bright and being KC you know they will last a long time. Magnet mount and wired into the existing harnessing/connectors make uninstall a breeze.

Installed a new battery (same model). Installed 4 pieces of roof rubber moulding between the rack mounts. Kinda weird getting it in. I need to revisit with a heat gun perhaps. Exterior wash.

Good luck with the harness. Praying to the airbag Gods it is something simple.

Had a little front suspension wobbe after hitting bumps and potholes. Got under the car and started shaking stuff and found i was able to wiggle the front sway bar without too much effort. Replaced the front sway bar bushings and the wobble is all gone! Super easy repair, just gotta remove the 4x 14mm bolts that are very easy to access with a ratchet wrench.

Also changed the rear license plate bulbs to LEDs

and installed an AC drain hose extension kit from cruiser garage

New front hubs/wheel bearings (the OEM ones from Yotabearings. Passenger was original. Made it to 247K. Driver was replaced by a PO at some point. Likely a Napa part. New went on easily not a bad service task at all. Waiting for new dust caps. PO buggered em up pretty good.

Does the delete also delete the KDSS from working or just deactivate the driver control of sortt
mine doesn't have KDSS. I had removed all the electronic suspension (AVS) and converted the rear air springs to coil springs so this switch is non-op.

KDSS doesn't have user-controls from the factory.

Ordered PARTS:

I crossed 250K miles in July and it's past time for attention to some wear/maint items.

2019 Taco TRDORs UCAs, press out the taco ball joints and press in some GX 555 ball joints ;)

Doing a front end refresh...a bit past due ;)

LCAs (KDSS) and UCAs (for bushings and ball joints), outer tie rods and a CV axle.

I'm working a connection for rear bump stops (mine are damaged due to riding on them for hundreds of miles with a flat air spring a couple years ago), I've since replaced both with new Arnotts.

I'll experiment with Bilstein 5100s using Tundra coils for a planned trip to Baja😇... I'll report my findings.😎

Bits!
