Finished the deck building our deck and pergola.
Took a few minutes to adjust the parking brake at the rear wheels because it wasn’t catching.

Girlfriend wanted a pergola, and she got a new deck.
Never done this kind of work before. The code guide for decks in my city along with a series of articles on deck building from Fine Homebuilding got me everything I needed.
It really is, and I’m no artist! There’s a ton of old houses here in Atlanta, and you can get a pretty good idea about the quality of the flip by taking a look at the baseboards and moulding.I dabble in wood and framing, but it's not my strong suit. Wrenching is. Wood is really an art form and a whole different set of skills.
Looks fantastic to my untrained eyes, especially for your first time doing something like this! Are you going to stain it?
Just a sequence of the install... took me extra hour to drill additional holes because I decided to mount rails first instead of attaching them to drawer frame and then marking the floor holes.

My scrap pile for wood was concerningly large. Lots of test cuts. Had about a month to work on it a couple hours a day. Being able to take my time really helped.
I’ve read mixed reviews on staining pine. From what I’ve read, gotta let the pressure treated wood dry out for about 6 months. Got time to figure out a plan for staining or paint.
Glad I keep tools in the car. Picked up a TV for the deck, and had to remove the passenger side second row seat to fit it. The guys at Best Buy got a kick out of me doing that in the parking lot. Put that seat in the front seat for the ride home.
We've had pretty bad luck with stain on treated wood. Lasted a year or so before it started popping off. We've had a bit better luck with paint, but I'd also suggest waiting a minimum of one year before applying it.
As long as we're showing woodworking, here is my new workbench. Around $250 total in this. Frame is 2x6 Douglas Fir (ripped to 5" to get it square). Top is 5/8" pine plywood with a sheet of 1/4" HDPE that should be replaceable. It has Amazon combo rubber feet/casters. We used lots of deck screws to hold it all together. It's super-sturdy, but probably too wide (3') as stuff it's hard to reach all of the way across it.

That’s awesome! Like the replaceable HDPE topper. Jealous that you have a work space. We’re gonna put a shed in the backyard sometime this year, and I’ll end up making a workbench in there.
That’s what I’ve heard about staining PT wood. Wish we’d had the budget to do cedar, but couldn’t justify it. Will likely end up painting next summer and let my gf pick the color.
We're in the middle of house building. For the past 11 years we've been in a 1900-era house with a tiny one-car shop/garage that my GX barely fits in. Before that, it was apartments and wrenching on the street. So I've definitely been there

It's about half the price of cedar and actually stronger. This workbench was the first time I used it. It smelled awesome when sawing/drilling in to it - almost like a natural cleaning product - which i guess is why it's insect resistant. Apprenatly it does require quite a bit of re-finishing when used outside, however.

Good to know about Douglas fir. I’ll have to keep that in mind. Seems like that and cedar are the nicest lumber I can get at the big box stores.

Different direction today. Dads Christmas present of BI-LED projectors and new Depo housing were running out of UP adjustment.
So I found some tiny shim washers to space the projectors lens up it was adjusted.

Changed the oil for the first time on it.
whoever installed the last oil filter. It definitely wasn't hand-tightened on. I'm glad I found the filter pliers and even those were having a hard time loosening it.
I will have to wait until Sunday to get the grease gun at my parent's place so I can lube the prop shaft and joints. I'll probably do a power steering fluid flush as well.
