Tried finishing up the sleeping platform using the instructions from @amongmany.

Really happy with the instructions, but the quality of the recommended kit from TNutz is terrible, particularly the hinges and other hardware to attach the wood platform to the extruded aluminum frame.

The flat head cap screws for the hinges don’t fit through the holes at all. So I had to drill them out. They’re also not long enough to catch the t-nuts.

This is all after they forgot hardware from my first order.

I gotta make a trip to ace today to get screws that will fit.

End result: cannot emphasize enough how good the instructions and build plans are. They made the assembly easier to understand than any Lego set I made as a kid. 100% worth the price.
Would probably get the aluminum extrusion bars and hardware myself if I were to do this again.

The height is perfect to just clear these slim Milwaukee tubs I got from Home Depot. They fit most of my recovery gear. The rest is in 2 knock off pelican cases.

all in all, super stoked with the build plans and design of this platform. I certainly couldn’t have come up with something better for the cost of materials.

Appreciate the honest run-down. I apologize for the quality issues with TNutz.

Are those Sequoia wheels? What center caps did you order?
They are sequoia wheels…..

I’m on my third set of center caps with finding the right ones. First and second set off of Amazon for around $30ish and they were too dark and too light.

third set is $17 a cap, and waiting on arrival.

I took my daughter for a drive to get her to nap and she slept all the way through my stuck and self-recovery.

The thawed mud was super slick and moving me closer and closer to the edge and 20’ drop. The only winch point within 200 feet was a small stand of scrub oak…enough to make an eleven point u-turn and get back on the trail in the right direction before she woke up.

Sounds sketchy but glad you made it! Always nice when a scenario like that just makes for a fun memory.

Few! It's not just me....
Dealership service had to gouge and chisel the front diff drain plug to break it loose. 😁🤙🏼

Depo headlights installed...

Word of advice to all looking to do the same - get the damn harness replaced at the same time to save yourself the trouble and get the job done in one attempt. Both of my old lights had turn signal melted and I suspect it might have been caused by shorted wiring. When I tried to move one of the harnesses to the new frame the wires broke and insulation was all dried out... Called local Lexus dealer and managed to get them delivered next morning. They are not cheap for what they are (~$60 at the dealer) but you can probably find them online a bit cheaper if you plan ahead.

Pix of lights? 😏

Picked it up from the shop :)

It got a body mount chop, new front rotors and pads, new rear driveshaft, oil change, and a thorough inspection. Then I brought it home and slapped some new rear recovery points on it.

Worked on cleaning up some wiring getting ready for winch install. I bought the terminal kit from SDHQ but didn’t realize there are some optional parts they sell to do a clean install in a GX. The kit comes with this top terminal for the ground lug which functions but isn’t very elegant.

To clean this up you need a new ground to body cable and a new terminal installed on the ground to engine cable. SDHQ sells these or you can make your own- I had the parts and wire in hand so made my own ground to body cable from 2awg wire and then installed a new lug on the ground to engine cable which is 4awg.

The other thing that made me a bit nervous was how exposed the power cable terminal was, so I added some clear and red heat shrink to cover some of it.

Appreciate the install pictures and info about parts needed!

I can’t find vehicle specific ground to body on SDHQ’s website for the GX. Would you use one for another vehicle?

Found the source of my front end clunking. Driver's side LBJ was in rough shape so I swapped both lowers with some Sankei 555 joints. Nice and quiet again and I won't have to worry about them for a while (hopefully).

They show these as product add ons, but say it’s only needed for the Tacoma, perhaps because the base kit works even though it’s clunky.

You can also buy a crimp on lug if you have a heavy gauge crimper

Awesome, thank you!

Gonna knock this out with some other electrical upgrades soon: AGM battery, voltage booster for the alternator, and a busbar for some accessories that I don’t want on my switch panel fuse box.
