Ordered a new dash today. Tired of looking at the brown, cracked turd that is currently in the GX.

Going with the sport dash (black dash/tan plastics) to continue my black/tan theme. I think with the brown vent trim on the old dash married up to the new black dash it will still flow nice with the brown door panel trim and look good. I hate that mahogany brown color Lexus picked out.

Finished up my secret cubby in the glovebox inspired by an older post here on mud.

Removed the CD changer and gutted the box. I lined the box with some thin cardboard, and then put black felt down on top of that. Re-assembled the box and re-installed it.

Now I’ve got a “secret” cubby behind the cd changer door.

Planning on doing something similar with the DVD player in the center console. I’ve removed the DVD player, but want to cut out the divider and the existing cubby, and 3d print an insert that takes advantage of the extra space.

Not to be ants at the picnic, but Georgia is one of a growing number of states that have laws on their books making homemade secret compartments in vehicles illegal. Super cool idea and I think this is my next weekend GX project. Just want to spread the knowledge.

Not ants at the picnic at all. I had no idea that was illegal, and never would have thought to look into it. Thanks for the heads up!

I don’t think I’ll get rid of it, but will likely be cautious about what I keep in it - e.g., no hand gun or anything illegal.

That's a crazy law. It could be interpreted as a set or rear drawers being illegal. Or a truckbed tool box. I wouldn't worry about it. Must be designed as an add on charge for folks caught running drugs or illegal guns.

I have a similar compartment i made ftom scratch for my GX, in the same spot, and use it for occasional handgun storage in accordance with my CCW permit and MO laws. The front is open so its really part of the glovebox.

Finally got around to bolting the housing in. 3rd tomorrow and shafts as soon as they are done at the driveline shop.

You're spot on about interpretation. It's been used in some states as justification to search and seize in circumstances that would have otherwise been unlawful (i.e., only justification being the hidden compartment itself, no evidence of illegal items being stored in the compartment).

Seems like someone should challenge that. I'm not a lawyer, but I can't imagine it being constitutional under the 4th Amendment, and can't see how the presence of a compartment in itself is probable cause. There are many perfectly legal reasons for a hidden compartment, like storing valuables or cash to prevent theft, storing medications to keep kids away from them, or storing a handgun in accordance with CCW laws (which I imagine are as loose in GA and TX as they are here in MO). When coupled with asset forfeiture laws, it's a system ripe for abuse by law enforcement.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I agree with you, it's ridiculous and overreach. Something I'd expect from California, not Georgia, Ohio, etc. I was just posting the reg for awareness. I don't agree with it.

Added a rubber mat topper to my rear storage shelf. Like all projects, it took 2.5X longer than I expected it to but it's done.

Rotated tires, welded in NTK Fabrication body mounts and installed catalytic converters into my URD Racing mid pipe.
Busy weekend!

What was the motivation for the body mounts? I've contemplated this for my setup but admittedly don't know what the real benefit would/should be.

Thx!

Finally got warm enough to install the rear door speakers. Much easier than the fronts, but didn't want to fool with rewiring the tweeter, may hang onto it for later. Sounds much cleaner even though I'm still dealing with just FM radio.

Is this the same speaker you went with?

Mine is non-Nav, non-ML - just started poking around for some 4-ohm replacements and SKAR has popped up a few times already. Thx!!!

Replaced both rear shocks on the GX today. Ironman4x4 nitro kit I bought back Fall 2019 and both rear shocks started leaking this last month a few weeks apart. Still in the 3 year warranty and Ironman sent me the new set no questions asked based on the pics I sent. I did appreciate they stand by even this basic economy kit.

Also rotated the tires while I was at it.
