I've been having some occasional squealing from front brake(s) since upgrading to GX460 calipers. Found the pad spring hardware was broken and rubbing against the inside of the wheel. Realized that I reused the GX470 springs on the wider calipers -- they came loose, rubbed against the wheel and wore down until they snapped in half. Doh!

Just got back from a trip to CO for a buddy’s wedding. Had to do some camping along the way back since it’s likely the last trip out for this year. Passed through the Tetons but couldn’t see the peaks due to the snow storm. Still absolutely beautiful though!

Did a 2-night camp in Central Oregon...no GX pics, but hopefully these will suffice.

Did the TPMS delete mod which online YouTube video is wrong for the 2007-2009. You need to find the green wire with the long red stripe instead of a blue wire.

Also ordered Baja Designs S1 Wide Cornering Amber ditch lights with CBI mounting brakes.

Beautiful photos @Tanaman! If you don't mind me asking, how do you have your CVT mounted on the roof? It looks like it is just the stock bars, if so, how has that been?

Thanks!

Today, I swapped out the driver's side lower control arm with a moog part from rockauto, installed radrubber's engine bay liner and repaired all the chips/paint damage from door dings from the previous owners life. I also swapped out both upper rear control arms last month. The lower control arm was properly torqued before I started, so it was an easy job to break loose all the bolts. I can't say the same for the upper rear control arms, that job was an awkward pain! Overall, I'm pleased with the quality of the moog LCA, I'll see how it holds up. I attempted to remove the upper tie rod to pull the brakes and caliper out of the way while I was replacing the LCA to give myself more room and may have ended up damaging the boot on the tie rod... and I also didn't need the extra room to do the LCA job, so I hope that doesn't end up biting me in the butt!

The Radrubber engine bay liner was extremely easy, the quality of the material is very nice and I'm very pleased that it came with extra clips (I broke two during installation).

I also ordered the paint from paintscratch.com and matched it to the VIN and the color match was spot on! I haven't sanded the paint and applied clearcoat yet, but it is imperceptible from 10' away which is all I'm really going for so the metal isn't exposed.

Greased all the zerks along the driveline. I got pretty lucky with the orientation of the drive shafts right out the gate, all but the front slip joint were easily accessible.

The RTT is mounted directly to the factory bars correct. It’s been good with no issues So far. I’ve had the tent up there since February, done probably close to 8k miles, and likely 25 trips. It is kinda loud from wind noise and also causes the sunroof to rattle slightly due to the wind deflection but overall no major issues or complaints.

well I have something to post in this thread finally... upgraded from the stock suspension to the Ironman stage 1 nitro... it was a bitch and a half luckly my buddy is a master tech but the front struts were FROZEN on big time!!

My buddy really liked it because he could slide under it the next weekend to drill out the broken bolts from the factory skids and replace it with one from ASFIR that I got from a fellow member for a killer deal! Yes he is a skinny one!!

My stock front plate was missing when I purchased it... The missing portion of the ASFIR is due to the original owner having to modify it for his KDSS but it does make it much easier to change out the oil filter without having to drop the plate.

Ugh, I have KDSS and want an ASFIR skid. lol

Picked it up from the shop yesterday evening where it received:
  • Eibach Pro Lift
  • Freedom Offroad F/R UCA's
  • New CV axle
  • Lots of fluids
  • Swaybar links
  • 5 Falken Wildpeaks (265/70R17)
  • Alignment
  • Probably a couple of things I'm forgetting

Next up is a wash and wax and installing the LFD crossbars that I've had sitting around. Also planning a drawer build/sleeping platform for the back cargo area And perhaps using it is in order...

Got a couple of quick things done. Installed my replacement ML amp — I can happily report that the W041 amp IS a plug and play replacement for the W141 in an '04 GX. They were used in the older LS models and can be purchased used in the $200-250 range vs. the $450-500 range to repair/replace the original.

I also added a seat cover to the 2nd row bench. Planning to get a pair of Wet Okole for the front seats, but didn't necessarily want to shell out another $360 for the bench just for the dog to walk around on it. Instead I went with one of these based on a recco from Facebook somewhere. It's not amazing, but for $35 I'm quite please with it.

Tomorrow I'm planning to install the LFD rails and hopefully give it a wash. I'll grab photos after that.

Was it hard to refocus/adjust them?

Honestly...not at all. I didn't have to adjust them...they came aligned perfectly out of the box. At least to my eyes. No dark spots...sharp cutoff...not sure if I am missing something, but they seem to be working well.

Got around to installing my White Knuckle sliders.
Very pleased with their quality...I haven’t seen a bad review yet, and now I know why.
At first, I was drawn to them as they are one of only a few that offer sliders for a KDSS truck. But after seeing their quality, I’d go with them whether I had KDSS or not.
I opted for the DOM, powder coated, full top plate, and the standard 11* angle. Very happy with all choices.
I was a bit concerned with the 11* up angle, thinking it might be too much, but now that they’re on I find it to be the perfect combo of good looks, higher clearance, and functionality as a step.
All mounting hardware was included and is high quality, communications were excellent and all timelines were honored, and installation instructions were complete and well written.

Today's adventures:
  • First wash (in my ownership). Found the extent to the scratches, etc on this 200k vehicle. Could really use a paint correction :bang:
  • Installed the LFD roof rails. I have four, but couldn't get the last one to fit. It's about 1/16th of an inch too long :bang:
  • Pulled the AHC control unit and replaced it with the "cup" version (at least until I need the switch plate version)
  • Swapped the cabin air filter. Wasn't as bad as I expected, but definitely had some crud in it.
  • Measured the lift which was 21 center to wheel well in the front, and 23 in the rear. I was 19.5-20 all the way around pre-lift, so it's ~2 in the front (which was intended) but looking like about 3" in the rear on the Eibach kit. I'm assuming that this is due to my airbags being on their way out. I believe it's correctly installed; the shop that did it is reputable and has installed this kit before.
  • Added an Anker Roav F0 bluetooth to FM transmitter. Probably end up upgrading it once I figure out what I want to switch to, but for $15 this is a solid hold-over.
Pics in the build thread: 04 GX470 Build & Advice Gathering Thread — Help me build out my overlander/daily driver...

My truck has plain-Jane Michelins, but from 35-50 mph, they sound like mud tires. Faster than that, the wind noise covers them up. So, I changed the transfer case oil to see if it was full of metal filings, and it was squeaky clean.

I did remove some of the under hood topside shields (the silver engine cover and the right-side cover that hides the power steering reservoir).

Any idea why my truck would have such tire noise? Alignment is fine, and the truck is stock.

Mine had a bad pass side front bearing that made an annoying sound, have you checked the wheel bearings on your truck? Just an idea.
