Changed out my MT spring conversion with an SSO. After my bumper and tire carrier my arse was dragging so I wanted to get it back where it should be (IMO). I also changed out the bushing in some free Skyjacker shocks from a Jeep XJ with 4" lift. They are the same dimensions as the Icon and Dobinsons (28.8/16.8), although not even close to the same quality. The body is upside down and 2.38" in diameter so at full droop, the body touches the mounting bracket on the axle. I am going to Windrock Park in TN later this month and want to test an LT setup before buying legit shocks.

Today I swapped out my subwoofer and 2.5" front door mids. I had already done the other two speakers. There is not a lot of 2.5in options out there so I took a gamble that I could make a 3.5 in work. With a little help from the dremel with the sanding wheel it works great.

The subwoofer was also interesting as I put a 6.75 kicker in place of the stock 6.5. For this one I built out the inset area and the cover fit over the top. Not quite the bottom end frequency response as a 10-12 ...but for not a lot of money its a lot better lower end.

nice, im in the process of doing all of this. i put tweeters up in the tweeter area but i might move then down to the other area that you put your 3.5" speakers.

im going to see about getting a box built thats the same size or slightly larger than the stock one and put a slim 8" sub in there.

are you using the stock amp for everything?

So far using stock amp for everything with a Pioneer 4500Nex driving it all. Sounds MUCH better. I am thinking about doing an 8 or a pair of 8s when I figure out what I want to do with a drawer in the back. It is amazing what a new sub (at 2ohm so pulling a bit more power) and stuffing the stick location with some polyfil does to it. The 6.75 is only rated down to 30 hz so you miss a touch of the bottom end, but much more punch and other than the lowest of tones you get a much better range.

What’s the fan thing that’s beside the oem sub box? Is it a fan for the rear a/c controls? Might replace that and get more room?

Kudos on making the upsized speaker work! For future reference, the center speakers in the front doors and the speakers in the rearmost door are not 2.5", they are 2.75", and there are actually lots of options:

Do you have any more info or pics of building out the insert? Does the sub hit the panel since it seems to stick out much further than the original gasketing material?

I should have taken more pictures. You can see from this one the lip I was talking about. My first thought was to use a heat gun and reshape, but that was not working.

I was lazy and didnt want to go out to the store so I went on a hunt for something I could build it out with. Since my wife was not keen on me cutting up her nice yoga mat, I found some scrap wood and cut out an insert. I did wrap both sides with my "dynamat" clone to eliminate the squeak and rattle. You can see 4-5 little tabs poking out, I just clipped them off.

I was surprised to find the stock sub was dual voice coil (I am non-ML so they were both 4 ohm). I had purchased the dual 2ohm thinking I would run it at 4 ...but ended up wiring at 2 and going with it.

been driving for 8 straight days now trying to get to anchorage Alaska from Miami. Upon entering Canada I decided It would be best to change course and ship her from Seattle and fly out there lol. Canada’s fuel prices were worse than I expect and apparently, most the gas stations in the Yukon are closed right now.
