Going in for a reconditioned sticker today. If it passes, I can get a safety check and then registration.

In idaho all you have to do is drive the car down to the DMV and they check the vin and that is about all the checking is done. Wow that says a lot about Idaho's laws.

It didn't pass and was told it never will. :frown: They said that the law only allows vehicles from 67 and below to be modified in the way that I did and that since no truck body style exists for my model, it's always going to be a no-go. I guess I get to part out the old blue bomber.

I'd fight that till the end of time

what EXACTELY are they saying is the problem?

Now that is a bummer!!:frown:

There must be a way.....

That said that the structural integrity of the vehicle has been compromised because it had been chopped. So, so there's no way that it's safety could be guaranteed unless a certified automotive engineer could come out from the mainland to inspect and certify it.

wtf? that uber sucks! I guess it's time to move!

When it was time for pigtown to be safety inspected here I knew some people that knew some people that passed vehicles without looking at them. But the only thing that doesn't pass at this time is the lack of a parking brake, still working on that. Someday I'll have one of those......

Sad thing is Hawaii is the only state that I'm aware of that forces people to get a reconditioned inspection in addition to the normal safety inspection. Even sadder is that the law only applies to O'ahu and not any of the outer islands.

Can you get a "friend" on another Island to get the liciense? It a shame to let go now!

i'd still point out that it has a full frame like a truck, not unibody like an SUV. tell them the body style right now is just like a ford bronco with removeable top, or VW truck, or el camino ect ect. and if they have any problems with that cut the body in half so its like a pickup truck, then they will have a body style to give you.

i'm not 100% cause i never cut a fuel tank open to see, but i think there is a little tiny filter on the pick up tube that get clogged over time. i have a rusty stock tank in the yard that i'm gonna cut open and look into.

Definitely would like to see pics of what you find when you cut it open. Seems like I here about lots of fuel tank problems for Pigs!

Wait a minute here! What say we get you some Idaho or Wyoming plates and you drive it that way?

So how the heck do they register pre-fab (I hate to say "kit") street rods, or custom cars in Hawaii? For that matter, how do they register tube-frame buggies? Chopped-top VW baja bugs? Custom built Choppers that have not one single solitary Harley-Davidson part on them? You can't tell me that there are none of those running around the island!
