What are your EGTs at idle?

Well now I feel much better about my EGT's. I'm able to easily reach 1250F on mine as well when pulling up hills and like Brownbear says, you ease off slightly and the temps don't drop or you drop a gear and get the revs up and the temps are still high.
My pyro is also pre-turbo and my fuel is still stock with the wire and all!

Wasn't there talk just a while ago when I asked about ball bearing vs bushing turbo's the general thought was to not push a bushing type turbo above 12psi?

I missed that conversation.

I thought it was the ricer guys making really high boost that needed the ball bearing units. Also guys who make a lot of heat and high rpms.

I talked to a turbo shop a while back and when I said I would want maybe 14 psi they said I was fine with a bushing model.

remember the gasser guys run boost in the 20's and on up. We are low incomparision.

Also I thought ball bearings were more of turbo longevity issue.

EH, lower boost less work on the turbo.,

But higher EGTS for the engine to deal with. There will be a happy balance somehwere. Also the higher the boost then you have heat issues again as the charged air will get too hot. Then the intercooler comes in.

Stone; A/C is a wonderful thing. I would not choose power over it anyday.

what size of exhaust do you run?

I don't know enough about it either to speak with any depth or knowledge. Tis on the list for time spent researching...

All that you list is certainly a consideration, and part of the picture.

I guess it always comes down to comfort zone. Since we have no conrete info regarding these numbers. Its just how you feel.

All the info I have read tho, says your direct injected engine can handle the higher boost better than stuffing it thru pre cups like in the NA 3B.

I will run my 3B at higher numbers. But I do know of someone who sells engines :)

Live a little..............humour. Peter S. Is running max boost from his turbo in the 3b he has. 20 something psi......crazy stuff. Fuel all the way up........

2 1/2" w/o a muffler but following the stock routing! Boost will occasionally climb to 10 - 12 psi

That unit that I got already had a bad thermometer in it...so I just cut it out and threw it away. Sorry, wish I could help. :)

I like my gauges better :)...and the altimeter is pretty cool. Thanks Greg for convincing me to leave it in. Going to a smaller gauge would make it hard to read, I think. The 2 1/16" gauges fit fairly well and are easy to read. And if you get rid of the Altimeter, you would easily be able to get a third gauge in that pod.

To each their own, I guess. Personally, I don't need to monitor that many things in my truck, and the boost gauge and pyrometer were the most important ones. What other things do you monitor? Water temp and oil pressure?

Also, the two needles crossing each other in one gauge seems busy and confusing to me. But then again, you're a pilot and are probably really used to reading gauges like that, so to you it's no big deal. To me, I like being able to glance at my gauges and instantly be able to read what they're telling me. And the convex lens and low profile bezel of the enhanced visibility ISSPRO gauges are great for that.

SO Taco, then the question would be do your read ITT, EGT, T5 or other? When you fly of course!

That's the beauty of the color coded face on the Isspro pyrometer gauge in my books. Needle in the red means back off NOW!!

I'm back to reading a set of 4 engine gauges that have the following:
BMEP
Manifold pressure
RPM
CHT
Fuel flow
fuel pressure
oil pressure
oil temp
Carburator air temp
Water flow-water injection
anything I miss?
some of these gauges are stand alone and some are two-in-one
Flight engineer on DC-6, hopefully for not too much longer.
