finally getting back to a sense of normalcy around the new castle. the house has been sorted for some time now, but i never could find enough time to do anything with the rental garage....this past week ive been going hard at that and was able to make great forward progress...the old place is pretty much empty, most everything has found a new hiding place in the new garage, the last major step was moving the 60series frame, and that happened yesterday. the boxes are a place set for the kid i need to build in the back yard. for the most part things are ready to happen here now.

Working on the 80 this week. I was planning on replacing the valve cover gasket but ended up braking every connector I touched. Then one thing led to another and removed and cleaned throttle body, intake manifold, VSV, and ERG. I ended up removing the fuel rail and injectors and purchased an ultrasonic cleaner from HF that help clean the injectors and ERG.

Received all parts to complete the top rebuild on Friday (12 hole injector kit from Osidetiger's 12 hole injector upgrade, PHH #2, and new fuel filter). I wanted to take care of the pesky maintenance items now since I had the upper plenum off. I know there were people on the forum that tried the injector upgrade but they showed no improvement but I can tell you this pig can get up and go now.

A work in progress ... thank goodness not by me.

Only one nasty spot on the DS of the rear tire well.

Hood painted ... still needs sanding and buffing. Man the green looks bright.

New window mouldings and weather strip gaskets all around when the paint is done. Roof rack is off with no rust and no broken screw mounts for it. Thinking it is going back on to keep the rig as stock as possible, but thought the rack had some thin rubber under the mounts. Not sure what to do about that. Open to ideas if anyone has them.

Cage. More room for kids. Took my cage, cut the back off, took another B pillar hoop from another I had, made it the rear hoop. This is just the start, going to have roof cross bars for the rear, x brace behind front seats and mounts for seatbelts, dash bar, and B to C pillar diagonal. Maybe door bars.

Changing a Timing belt on my v8 4runner. At 190k belt looked like new, the water pump had some dry coolant residue on bottom already, otherwise I could have drove another 100k without a problem

A bread line mixer upgrade job in Mississippi to a bread line cooler rebuild in Wisconsin....with any luck I'll be back in PA the end of this week.

A little trailer maintenance.

Rotated and balanced all four wheels, lubed wheel bearings, adjusted all four brakes.

Had a nasty vibration anywhere over 70 mph. Psyched to see how it runs now, all four wheels took some weight, one needed much more than the rest.

Had quite the unpleasant surprise today. Took the 40 out and parked it in town in a space into which I had to parallel park. No problem. Got back in the truck to come home, started her up and she wouldn't go into any gear. Hmmmm.... Ended up putting it into first gear and pulling out using the starter. Drove home without a clutch and sneaked her into the garage. Master cylinder empty. Filled it up and went to bleed and found the slave leaking out the rear seal drip port. Got it bled and functional but the slave is leaking profusely. Ordered one and hope it gets here pronto (shipping priority mail so my fingers are crossed). Not sure how old the slave is but the master is relatively new. I do have an extra slave here but no idea how good it might be so waiting for the new Aisin to get here.

this happened to me not long after I bought my 40 - back when it still had the 283 small block in it. The slave, at the time, was mounted driver’s side and was puking brake fluid onto the hot exhaust pipe below it. I had a car full of friends who were “not car people” begrudgingly riding around in my junker. Imagine my surprise (and their terror) when I pull it over with smoke billowing out the louvers. My friends bailed out the ambulance doors like it was a beachhead landing - I’m not even sure the truck had stopped completely yet. I was fairly convinced the truck I’d finally bought after 10 years of coveting one was going up in flames just weeks after I bought it! Glad it wasn’t anything more serious - in both of our cases! Also glad these things can be bumped into action with the starter and driven home clutchless.

i've chuckled more than a few times after reading stories in the forum regarding people that do not know this, and often try to do my part to educate, but some people are dead set that not using the clutch pedal will yard sale the transmission.

I still don’t claim to be an expert and I was sure clueless when that story took place - but if owning a 40 for nearly a decade has taught me anything it’s how to limp my ass home.

I can honestly say that unfortunately I’m not working on any vehicles right now. We’ve decided to downsize and put our house on the market. For the past month I’ve been working on the house in preparation of listing. Fresh paint everywhere, all of the little maintenance items, power washed the house, deck and garage yesterday, landscaping has been freshened up, and filled a 30 yard dumpster with all of the crap we’ve been accumulating since we built 20 years ago. I did take a break in the middle to swap an alternator on the FJC.
Anyway, can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and hope to have it on the market by the beginning of July. Now just need to find something temporarily in the Harrisburg area until we find land.
