After. It was long over due.

Took the LX450 in for inspection today and apparently the #1 fuel injector has a massive leak at the rail. Not sure what happened there yet, hoping I can get it sorted without having to remove the upper plenum. So that truck obviously failed inspection. Glad I didn't burn it to the ground. I have no sense of smell (not Covid related, been like this for 25+ years), so I couldn't smell the fuel. On the upside, they sorted the rear brakes for me finally so it no longer sounds like a trash hooptie.

Hard to see, but back side isn't seated. Those gaskets don't push up into the rail right? Just the smaller o-rings do?

Dropped off the cammo truck then ... the OBD port shorted out ... classic. Already had that fixed once at Toyota. Got it passed as an under 5k exemption for this year. The tech also said he found a stick that was wedged between the frame rail and exhaust that may have started a fire. He's putting it in the truck for me to see.

Stick ...

Def looks charbroiled.

Oh, just for added fun the truck had a #6 misfire after sitting for ~10 days, replaced the plug and it smoothed out. Just went to start it again and got another slight stumble at start then smoothed out again. I don't want constant issues, just want the trucks to work proper for a bit. No more mud holes ... I promise.

On a scale of toothpick to a phone pole, what are the dimensions of that log?

Spent an hour getting to the fuel rail, loosening it and seeing if the injector just needed to be re-seated. Put it all back together, started it up ... leaked worse than before. OK, there's no use crying in the breast milk (any Dodgeball fans here?), so I got busy on disassembly. Did all the parts I hate, upper plenum bolts and fuel filter bolt. Finally got the rail off and located the issue.

An entire head gasket repair and this is the fail point ... :bang:

I even used all the new gaskets, so not sure why or how that happened. Anyway, I had saved the old gaskets and I found the best looking one and re-installed the fuel rail. Now I'm a bit stuck. I can't get the line from the filter to the rail back on properly with the stupid banjo bolts on both sides.

80 Series guys .... Do you put the fuel line on the filter from underneath?

I haven't tried that yet, decided it was beer time and hopefully get things back on point tomorrow. Oh, I can loosen, but not remove the top connecting bolt from the line to the rail. Not enough clearance to get the bolt out without removing the EGR unit and to do that I would need to remove the hood to get the huge wrench on the nut.

I have been researching super chargers lately. I may be able to get a used one. Are you doing an install or tuning it. Besides the expense of the wormhole it will create, do you think it will affect reliability and durability of the 3.4? Give us some details on that baby!
This is currently in the shop. Not something you see everyday...

My brother in law had a 99 Tacoma with supercharged 3.4. Dealer installed. Never had a problem with engine or the blower. The fuel mileage suffered compared to my NA tacoma. He would probably still drive it if Toyota didn’t buyback do to frame rust.

this guy was all kinds of fun...if it wasn't one thing, it was another. seems to be running like a top now.....but i thought that before too....
it's just a touch over 1350ft(quarter mile) between the "twin" bridges and it made it to about 50mph.

So what wound up being the issue(s)? Also - I’m glad to know the whine from my trans/fer boxes is just normal - I’ve always kind of wondered if it was excessive but it sounds basically just like that.

It’s also incredible how much quieter a 2F is in its natural habitat as opposed to a 350.

mostly timing and spark delivery related with some intake manifold vacuum leak mixed in.
this is actually an F.5, with a 3spd which i had an absolute blast driving....the whine is mostly from the transfer cases....as top gear is really a gear at all.
it also has heated seats, which i may look into myself.....it's topless and the last few days have cold and damp, and it wasn't terrible to drive.

First the first time since furlough ended the garage is cleaned out so I could pull in our Rav4 to start getting the rear end apart to do rear wheel bearings, 141k and a little bit of rust, they are bolt in but so was the Camry and they gave me hell, fingers crossed I can get this job done easily -_-

Lower control arm bushing replacement this weekend.
Good news: Rides smoother
Bad news: Suspension thump still there. I think it’s the sway bar joint.

Better news:

I now have a 20ton press and press tool set that will collect dust. If you need to press in new bushings let me know, I have all the tools for an 80 and don’t mind helping someone in need.

you check the upper mounts on the rear shocks?

It’s most definitely coming from the drivers side front. If it was in the back, it wouldn’t stress me out.

Customer installed the blower. It is here as after he installed it the relocacted throttle cable rubbed through a brake line, and he also wanted us to install the new bigger in tank fuel pump. He has yet to install the 7th injector so I dont think I'll get to drive it to its full potential just yet.

Ah the 🐇 hole. The 7th injector was a bandage from my research years ago. The real fix was a tune and larger injectors. Urd used to be the place for the good stuff. I don't know if they still are.

I believe they still are. I have to do some research. Also I read somewhere, I'll have to go back, that you can use 2RZ injectors as your bigger injectors. Which is a nice factory option.
