As if I didn’t have enough to do already before fall crawl, I decided to add to the list.

So I bit the bullet and had ECGS put an ARB locker in the front of the Tacoma along with 4.88 gears. Also had to pull the rear 3rd and match the gears up front. With 33s I was worried it was going to be to low but I don't drive highway that much and I'm impressed with how responsive she is now.

You will love it off road even more, it was great with the 35s the last time I was out.

Flap disked, followed up with some dual action-action and I’m almost ready for some paint.

First time posting, hope I did this right.

What I am working on as of now.

Have been wanting to start this project before everything hit the fan, now I have finally started it.
Removed rear axle out from underneath and began stripping it down. Why you ask? I am the 3rd owner and I know this vehicle has been used for its purpose of getting you where you need to go.
The locker actuator was not working, inspection found that there is a crack and water and silt made its way in.
There will be further inspection of the axle and once completed, Por-15 will be applied to the axle housing.
Por-15 will also be used under the vehicle since the axle is out and I will have good access to trouble areas that I have noticed.
Any advice is appreciated.

Are you proficient at welding? Shave the diff and delete the drain plug.

I actually really like the drain plug that was engineered into the housings of Toyota axles. It was one of many good ideas that Toyota did. AAM should take note of this, making maintenance mess free and hassle free. But that is just my opinion.
Thank you for the thought.

Its great for ease of maintenance. However they tend to fall out on the trail. Then you burn up gears and bearings on your drive home.

If you do not intend to wheel it, don't worry about the drain plug.

If you DO wheel it, then it would be a good idea to weld the plug in place, or get one of these.

It is very common for the stock plugs to work themselves loose on the trail.

I think @surfishjoe and @El Dahs both had this issue relatively recently.

I never swapped mine out, I just kept an eye on it,. Now it looks like this, and I don't have to worry about it! :hillbilly:

Diff cover armor is never a bad idea while its out. But only if your going to wheel it.

Andy are you aware of anyone who makes armor for the 40-series? I was under there 40 the other night and noticed my diffs have been taking a beating. I've got tiny tires so armor might not be an awful idea at some point.

Andy shaved and armored a pair of 80 axle housings for me, and they are a work of art.

Now, if I can just find the time and motivation to swap everything over from my '93...
