What Aftermarket Gauges are Important in a 60/62?

I don't want to see a vacuum gauge while I'm driving (too distracting) but I do want to have one in the cab for idle diagnosis to keep an eye on the EGR valve. So I installed it out of my line of sight down near the floor. There's a threaded insert already where I installed it, so all that was required was to screw in a bolt. No drilling.

I like this a lot. Can I pick your brain on where you tie into for drawing vacuum?

I like this a lot..

The gauge is an Autometer Z Series
2-1/16" VACUUM, 0-30 IN HG, Z-SERIES

It comes with a very small diameter plastic vacuum hose that is easy to route anywhere. Easy to go through the firewall. It comes with some rubber tee fittings to size up to normal vacuum pipes. I just teed it off the fitting that feeds the brake booster and AC idle up at the back of the manifold.

Other than stock. I have 2 gauges all Auto Meter (I prefer Steward Warner myself but these came with the rig) Both are mechanical, 1 temp 1 oil. Nothing else.

Really this on an FJ60 and maybe a tach (really after a while you can tell where you are RPM wise by sound), and volt meter is about all you need. On a 62 if still auto I would add a trans temp gauge.
Neither go fast enough now a days to justify a speedometer. If you are keeping up with traffic and not being passed then you are doing great!

Not sure if you are aware of the "spiking" gage issue on these trucks. There is some ancient electronics in the gage cluster. As the voltage regulator starts to fail it will send your stock temp (and maybe fuel) gage all the way to the top - enough to make you crap your pants if you are not aware of the issue.

This is reason enough to have at least the a redundant water temp gage.
