1986 Toyota FJ60 in 8B2 Blue with 174,400 miles currently. I purchased this out of Pennsylvania as a project and have since put a lot of time and parts into getting this back into somewhat of its original glory. Being an east coast vehicle it certainly wasn’t spared from salt and corrosion but I’ve addressed most of the issues as detailed below. I’ve been daily driving this to work every day for the last 3 months without any issues. It has been desmogged using the Jim C components.
- Gas tank was removed, cleaned, and resealed. It was also externally coated in POR15. The sending unit and pick-up assembly and associated gaskets were replaced with new, OEM units.
- The notorious C-channel rust was removed and replaced with the Trail Tailor kit. The frame was wire wheeled and sealed with POR15. There is still rust evident on the two support brackets to the rear bumper.
- Fuel lines and brake lines were replaced
- New brake master cylinder
- New clutch master and slave cylinder
- New, remanufactured alternator
- New oil cooler and all piping and hoses
- New radiator and hoses
- New Toyota distributor (61180)
- New coil and external resistor
- New, OEM coil wires and spark plugs
- New, OEM remanufactured starter
- Replaced oil pan, side cover, valve cover, and timing cover gaskets
- New speedometer cable and housing
- New PVC valve and grommet
- New carburetor, currently has Chinese aftermarket but comes with original Aisin ready for rebuild
- New, OEM v-belts
- New battery
- Falken Wildpeak tires with roughly 2,500 miles on them now
- Rebuilt front knuckles with all new seals, wipers, and bearings.
- New front brake caliper, rotors, and pads
- Replaced heater control valve
- 4 new shocks and steering stabilizer
- New Aisin water pump
- New Aisin fan clutch
- Changed out all oil in the differentials, transfer case, and transmission.
- Flushed and replaced all coolant
- New thermostat and housing
- Koito headlight kit and Cruisertrash HBIM
I’m sure there’s more that I’ve done so few free to ask about anything else and I’ll be happy to let you know if it’s been replaced yet or not.
Known Issues
- No radio, but there is the cover plate from CruiserHead to cover the hole
- AC is currently inoperable. All components are there I just haven’t had chance to go through system yet
- There is body rust in the normal spots on the rear fenders and quarters. The driver side is worse and the replacement body panel is included
- The original paint looks pretty good for its age but there is nicks, scrapes, scratches, etc. The hood has lost some paint in areas.
- I’ve tried to treat all the rust spots I’ve found with rust converter. There are some very minor spots around rear window. No rust was found on the roof.
It will come with the original Aisin carburetor and original distributor with a new cap. Also included is the replacement body panel for rear drivers quarter. There is also a rear brake rebuild kit with new shoes I will throw in, the rear brakes were fine when I checked them.
Mainly looking to sell it for now but may be interested in a trade for an 80 series. I have a clean WV title in my name and a valid WV State inspection through 5/24 if you’re a local buyer.
