hello all, another new guy here with his 1st FJ40
after owning several 4X4 rigs over the years including cj7-cj5-DJ-Bronco-Chev-Sr5-m38 military-and even an Iltis, I began lurking this site a while ago and became inspired to locate an FJ40 I could afford. I made the jump today to a 1977 FJ40. (My room mate had an FJ back in 81 when I had the CJ7 and the Bronco.) I am the 4th owner of this one. It has been sitting in a barnyard since 1998 when it was last on the road. It started today but....runs only when choked will not idle, lights do not work, muffler long gone, broken door handles, heater and wipers do not work, tub was rebuilt at one time with checker plate steel still solid. Motor swapped out with another f2 but the original in sitting in the barn (old one was burning oil so he put in a rebuilt out of an older FJ. this one seems to heat up awful fast) moss is growing on it is various areas, rear doors, running boards. I am sure that is just scratching the surface, I no doubt will be USING THE SEARCH FUNCTION before asking newbie questions. No hard core plans yet still in the "discovery stage" I try and attach some pics, check out the white walls! and full time front hubs? your thoughts? opinions ? Great site

Welcome to MUD!
Your 'new' truck looks pretty good to me!

Oh and this is a moss covered truck....

very nice rig. Your rear light and side marker lights are not stock. your front sides are trailer lights.

What's the deal with the front hubs? may need to make pictures of your front hubs. They may be 2 wheel drive hubs.

Looks pretty rust free.

Those are not hubs, they are drive flanges and came stock from the factory. Locking hubs were a dealer installed item as hubs were not offered from the factory until the 78 model year IIRC.

That looks like a pretty solid truck.

maybe a few more years out in the rain and I can get the moss to grow more!
tail lights, front turn signals, side markers, tub, front fenders not stock, front fenders have holes under the yellow stick on reflector for turn signals ( these fenders were put on as replacement by the P/O)don't know why he put replacements up on top? anyone got a good used set of stock ones to sell?
the front hubs ? not full time 4wd just not free wheeling I'm not sure as all other FJ40's I have seen have manual lock out hubs. Any info on these would be great.Thanks.
knob on far side of dash is for the interior lights the P/O installed (clear T/T unit clearance lights mounted to roll bar!)

yes it's Canadian EH! located outside of Ottawa Ontario.
