SGT Kyle Schleenvoigt, Active Duty Army. I do Satellite Communications and have been to Fort Detrick MD, Camp Arifjan Kuwait, and now The Great Place Fort Hood TX. I've got 7 years in so far and feel like I'm a lifer. My baby is a 1985 FJ60. I have had many other off road vehicles, but this is my one true love. I've been on Mud for many years and love the wealth of knowledge and experience on here!

Welcome Kyle and thank you for your service!!

Enjoy Hood and the nice balmy summer temperatures!!

Don't forget to show us some pictures of your 60, when you have time.

Hi,
My name is Francisco and I enlisted at 17 six days after graduating HS. I served in the Navy as a Hull Tech welding on Submarines in Pear Harbor, then aboard a Fast Frigate (USS Brewton FF-1086). Reached the rank of E-5 then switched branches to USAF. I took a bust to E-4 for a new school (Fuel system tech) and worked on A-7's, C-130's and finished up on F-16's as a E-6. Got out after ten years of total service to start my business in welding/machining. Still run my own gig but have been in Public Safety for the past 20+ years with Tucson Fire.

I got the bug ("82" 40) in 2010 and have been driving her daily to and from work with only two weeks of down time during top end work I completed myself.
I have made/built several improvements to my rig and plan on a South American tour once I retire from FD. I have been a member of this forum since the bug bite and have learned along the way. My only son was accepted into the Coast guard Academy (he was 17 years old as well) and has been serving for the past nine years as an officer.

Thank you all for your service.

Unable load photos for some weird reason...Never had this problem before.
She's tan and sexy, even in her original paint.....F@%king computers!!!

Welcome Francisco and thank you for your service!!

I was stationed at DM for 5 years, just after the dinosaurs went extinct. Spent a lot of time fishing at Patagonia and, my favorite, Parker Canyon. Our younger Daughter was born at the DM hospital.

You are certainly justified in being so proud of your Son!! Thank for his service, as well!!

Thank you sir!

Fishing those lakes are still decent, but DM no longer has a hospital:(

I am kind of interested in knowing how everybody became addicted to Cruisers, did you guys run across them overseas, or domestically? I had my first real experience with Toyotas being so bad ass in Kosovo, the SF guys ran around in them everywhere, then I ran into a FJ40 when I lived in Colorado, the rest is history.

I Had an up-armored 200 series in Africa. 10,000 plus pounds, new tires every month. It was a beast...

Had an encounter with a "40" as a teenager while hunting...Called it a "jeep". Honest mistake for a country rube from WV.

Bit on a FJC as a daily driver.....

I am kind of interested in knowing how everybody became addicted to Cruisers,

My addiction was quite by accident and occurred late in life...

We moved to Vegas in 2012 and I was tearing up my Tundra in the scree of Central Nevada... I use the Tundra to tie our 17' Casita Travel Trailer and didn't want to destroy my tow vehicle... I was (plz don't hate me) looking at Jeeps and my Son-in-Law suggested an FJ40... I had never seen one...

So, for our 44th wedding anniversary (Mar, 2014), I bought '44'... The rest is legendary!!

X2 on all the welcomes to the Highway. I first ran into the 40's in Africa and then again in the former Yugoslavia during the unpleasantness there as a contractor pilot. Neat vehicles and I love working on them and driving them around. The first three I owned were sold to fund the kids college but, this last one is a keeper. Not going to part with her. My wife and I are still trying to come up with a good name for her. Still trying to figure if it should have a male or female personality or be neutral like Danny's "44".

She is in about a hundred pieces and slowly be refurbished with rebuild on all components and we are staying with the original Freeborne Red color. Just in the process of getting the prep finished up before I paint her. Will post some pics as I get started with the reassembly. Too darn hot and humid to work in the shop right now. By the time it cools off in the evenings I'm sawing ZZZ's

Saw it in South Africa, being driven by a pilot with the forerunner to SA Aviation. That would have been around '71-'72. I was doing transition training to the Spanish Air Force under the Military Assistance Program. Hopped a flight down to SA at the invite from the pilot there. I think I also saw them in the Philippines while there for E&E training. That would have been in early '70.

Philippines while there for E&E training.

Did you do your E&E at Subic? I went to the Jungle Survival School out of Subic in the late 70's. They were running an E&E course for Pilots as well....The head instructor was an indigenous islander who was the Camp commandant/head instructor. He had worked with MacArthur as a guide in WWII. His nickname was "Gunny"....

Hey guys. Didn't see this thread before.
A friend emailed the attached file. I know the VA is planning to revamp their system but this PDF has a ton of useful veterans links and information for us.
Hope someone can find it useful.

In other news, I just learned that there were less than 2000 WWII vets left in the Philippines and that will have an effect on the USVA and its right sizing here.
