Saw this today and thought it was a bit odd. Will say I have used my ratchet before but something tell me this wouldn't last long.

This one I could actually see a use for especially for camping and wanting a good steady picture.

As well this one. Could have used it this weekend.

Not really a weird tool but I wasn't aware gearwrench had a tap and die set. Looks pretty nice. Great idea on the ratcheting function.

I wouldn't use something that ratches when I cut threads. When cutting threads I always only advance an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn at a time, backing off a full turn with each cut. Always ended up with perfectly clean threads and no damage to the tap or die.

Cutting oil helps too :D

I agree, might be handy for chasing threads though

In a perfect setting that would be the case but most of the time when I using one I have crap in the way and makes it a pain to unlock the die or tap and a tap gives you only a 90 degree choice. This you could ratchet it in a very tight space. Would be nice though if you could remove the handles.

Check with a machinist supply place, I'm pretty sure they sell a dei set with removable handles and a ratchet mechanism.

Tight spaces do happen. I picked up this little gem I forget where and when, but it does come in handy at times.

It was an april fools joke on another forum. But how cool would this be? I cannot see that Co2 lasting very long but still. Would be really nice to have if it actually worked. Info on it was in this page.

I like the battery life of 4-6 femto hours.

Interesting! I know folks who have welded with 12 volt batteries have been surprised at how little juice welding takes, so the battery life might not be that much of an issue. And voltage wouldn't be bad, you can weld with two 12 volt batteries (24 volts) so 18 volts wouldn't be that much less.

Amperage would likely be your issue, but if you were welding very small projects......

Probably not going to be much use for a trail fix though..............

Amp Hours would be the issue. Also if you discharge a small battery fast it tends to explode or at least get really hot.

The basic idea is sound if you replace the pellet gun CO2 cartridge with a paint ball canister and use something like the Ready welder spool gun.

OTOH hand if you are welding in the field flux wire has advantages over MIG.
