Once the big stuff got cleaned I wiped off and inventoried the rest of the hardware.

I’m only missing a few cone washers and a few other small items.

I am pleased at how well @USMC22 kept it all together. I appreciate him selling me a nice setup.

Next I separated the old course spline birfields from the inner axles. Of course the inner C clamps broke so I put Martacks on the inner axle splines

The next step is to open up the axle ball for the larger 60 series Birfields. This is easily done with a die grinder and a carbide bit.

Part of making this old farm truck a good safe driver for the new owner is to attempt to put the steering back like Mr Toyota designed it.

We ordered the new Tie Rod and Tie rod end set from @cruiseroutfit that gives you new rods as well as rod ends.

One end that usually gets ignored is the one that attaches to the stock steering arm/box

This is not normally a big deal except the slotted end that must be removed to “gut” the rod end was frozen solid.

I finally found a way to remove it.

Air Hammer with a big slotted chisel end and a fitall wrench

There was also no noticeable 90wt in the box itself. Once I got the arm free I could hear it seemed dry. I put a bunch in. I’m interested to see where it comes out (if it does)

This works too, usually on a breaker bar.

Last post for the day. Got a good solid 5 hours in on Weenie 3 today.

The center arm is off, gutted and cleaned.

Brown Santa landed just as I was going to quit with the JT Outfitters @cbmontgo used on Pikachu.

I chocked it up in the high tech paint booth and added an initial coat of silver to it. I need to grab another can and add more.

The color is Rustoleum Wheel paint. Color “steel”

Pretty productive morning so far.

got the rims painted Rustoleum Industrial Gray.

The @lcwizard 4Plus flip kit arrived. Waiting on springs and shocks for that

Stripped off the swingout. This thing had really done a number on the top of the tub. Adding a 4Plus swingout takes the weight of the tire off the body and puts it on the frame. Part 1 of 2 arrived yesterday and Home Delivery says the other part is on the way today. Hope it’s not lost

I could not find any tools and I had left every damn one in the tub

Figured while I was waiting on the swingout delivery I’d get started tearing into the rear axle. I really wish I had cleaned this better before I pulled it back in here but it was 30 degrees for a week and I could not bring myself to pressure wash in the cold.

Everything about this is perfect. Excellent taste on the buyer's part. Love it.:beer:

Thank you for the compliment. He is superb to work with and knows all the ins and outs of Cruisers so the process has been painless.

Still waiting on the swingout so I dug deep into the rear axle.

I only twisted one brake line so that’s a big plus. I keep a roll of line here so I can make one to replace it.

I never replace the rear bearings in semi float axles so I ended up not having the slide hammer attachment to pull these so I left them in and will replace when the parts and my new slide hammer attachment gets here

In the mean time I took some Zep orange to the backing plates and axle and got it nice and clean

I personally hate shiny paint on a Patina truck underside so I clean the frame and axle real good and let this stuff soak in. Over time it will make the metal nice and black. It may take a good pressure wash and another coat but my 40 and 55 axles look great and I’ve never painted them

Once I scrubbed it down with a brush I blew it all dry with compressed air and hit it with a layer with my new spray rig. I’ve had this thing for a few months and decided to try it.
Wow. So amazing. Nice coat. This stuff works wonders on rusty steel.

I also got a used blower motor from @under_psi since he installed Vintage air in his 40. His also sounded like a wounded animal but I was able to dissect it end get it mostly quiet.

I had some Koyo bearings and axle seals in stock so I tapped that stuff in too. Next week I get to learn how to use an axle/knuckle centering tool.

It’s my 19th anniversary so I stayed up late with my smoking hot redhead and slept late.
She headed off to the gym so I eased out to the shop at about 11. This is the “don’t take my picture hand”

These 4Plus swingouts are so simple and awesome. You simply bolt the center to the OEM frame holes and drill 4 1/2” holes in the frame. Of course, that’s not super easy but take it slow and use about 4 bits and some tap magic and it happens.

It puts the bolts in the strong gusseted spot on the rear.

As I was bolting this thing on, I was looking at these beat up rear lights and gaskets and just could not send them off like this.

I had a couple of brand new lenses and gaskets I’ve been hoarding since they are getting hard to find. I got the insides all clean and buttoned them up. This makes me happy
