I’m with you Nolan on the damn ome stickers, I can install the spring quicker than removing the friggin sticker! As always, great build and documentation👍
Thank you sir. Now I’m staring at some @cruiseroutfit scotch tape and starting to twitch.

I started a thread in the Tire/Wheel section to see if I could get some tech in tire size.
I’m kind of a tire geek and I like to know the true size of a tire, mounted and on the truck.

The Toyo MTs turned out to be some of the truest sized tires listed as 33x10.50-15s.

I think General and Dick Cepek both make this size so if anyone has tech on them, please post it up.

32.25” tall and10” wide. Nice size.

Also, like my Yokohama and Maxxis tires, Toyo puts the green dot on the sidewall. If you line up that green dot with the valve stem it will balance without much weight (assuming the wheel is good)

I used to be a BFG KM homer but the 30.5” tall KM3 pissed me off so until they fix that I’m done with them

Aight. I’m done for the day finally. Time to prep a turkey.....but first I must tell on myself. I $&%^# forgot the caster shims. Ugh.

My @Racer65 box showed up yesterday and I bolted on a few items while I sipped a beer. Light work to unwind.

This tool is MONEY for old rusty stuff

Lastly, I replaced the smashed 1/4 panel marker light and the Licence plate light.
Still need to make the 12v and horn button work and that will be 100% on the electrical.

Awesome! I was gonna ask about the shims, since @orangefj45 recommended them for the cruiser I’m working on. We’re seriously doing the same job, except I suck I documenting. Lol

They make a huge difference. The 40/55 barely have enough caster stock
Add even the smallest amount of shackle length and you whack out a system barely adequate from the get-go.

Did family yesterday and today but I got home and was able to put 3 hours into Weenie 3

first thing I did was undo the spring packs and add the 4* shims. That did not take long.

Then I read the instructions on the Knuckle Center tool @FJ60Cam sent me and I got a stabbing pain in my eye.
Then I read @Coolerman thread in the FAQ and got a pain in my other eye so I decided to do something easy.

I added these awesome vent drain hoses City Racer makes. The 74 vent is not a working vent like on my 67 and 68 but you still have to drain it or the water builds up inside and/or drains on your feet

I then used a kit and rebuilt the center arm and mounted it up. After I build the knuckles I’ll mount up the rest of the steering arms.

Then after reading all I could I made my initial scribe with the tool.

Just curious - what size was the KM3 supposed to be? I’ve got 7.5R16’s (which I think I’d asked you about in the past) and they’re definitely around 30.5. My understanding is they should be around 32??

I believe when I first put them on they measured around 31.5 but I’ve noticed the sidewalls seem to have relaxed considerably after a few crawling trips which seems to have made them squat a bit.

I will say that despite being on the small side, they’ve been fantastic on the trails - I got lost at the Cove in Gore, VA and ended up in some rocks I had no business trying to get through and they pulled the 40 through without any drama.

The 33x10.50-15 KM3s I had only measured 30.5” tall on 60 wheels. My 750-16 on 5.5” wheels are only 30” tall.
Disappointing. I have a thread on tire sizes in the wheel/tire section and have documented what I can

That’s surprising, but good to know. I was hoping to step up to some 33” km3’s once I get a lift installed but sounds like they won’t be sized any differently than the 7.5 R 16’s.

I remember seeing that tire post (and possibly even commenting on it) but I’ll have to go dig it up. When I was deciding on tires last summer Yoko Geolandars were high on my list too...

I hate to spin off too bad in this thread on tires but I’ll say my 235/85-16 Yokohama are 31” tall and the 255/&5-16 Yokohama are 32.5”

I would stay with 16s just get a more true to size tire

Only reason I'm looking back at 33x15's is I still have the old wagon wheels my 40 came with. Once lifted I could theoretically throw them and a 33(ish) tire on for wheeling and not worry about scratching my purdy expensive city racer wheels. Keep the 7.5R16's for "around town." That said a 7.5R16 might look comical on a 2.5inch lift....

I’m going to go ahead and say this knuckle centering voodoo is a wild ass guess in the end.
I used it. Got a good scale feel. Going off 20+ years of not knowing these things existed, I’ll say this is good to go.

I cut off the backing plates and harvested the brake junction.

On. All seems to function. knuckle drag is at about 8#.

All done. Headed to the other side to do the VooDoo knuckle stuff.

Why did you cut the backing plate away? I have always been able to use the whole piece on my conversions.

It’s not necessary. It’s the way the old birfield bar guys did it for easier trail side birfield changes. I’m sure there are other reasons but it’s just something I’ve always done. Easier to clean etc.

This and small rocks can get lodged between the rotor and shield.
