PO of my 87 60 had installed a purolator fuel pressure regulator on the pressure side of the fuel pump leading to the carb....last night the thing was leaking so badly that when I returned home the engine compartment was begining to smoke from pre-ignited fuel......I was lucky to say the least....checked it out today and as soon as the engine cranked up...fuel was dumping out of the regulator like a watering can. I removed it and found out that my local parts place doesn't even think that they exist anymore. here are my questions:

1. what is the standard PSI for a OEM fuel pump.

2. Do I need to place a regulator in order for the carb to be "safe"....truck runs great...power....idle....a little rich now will need to lean it out a bit (probably just use a VAC gauge)

3. My fuel pump is working great....but should I bypass it and install an electric pusher pump that puts out about 3-5 psi?

4. Has anyone done this install and is it a pain in the rear or easy to do?

5. Should I just drive it and let the dice roll?

Your opinions?

Easiest would be to replace the fuel pressure regulator. You can get the purolater dial type at NAPA. The weber is known to run rich without one. I think the recomended pressure setting for the 38 is 3psi.

Makes me wonder what pressure the cruiser pump puts out.

i don't have a haynes for a 60 series, but a 40's pump makes 3.4-4.8 psi.

ditch the reg and don't look back.
i tryed one on my 40 with a weber38 and quickly dumped it. it's been running like that for yearssss.
