I am heading out soon for a 900 mile road trip. I have about 120,500 on the odometer. I replaced the starter and plugs about 2 months ago. However, I have not had time to change my water pump. Should I be concerned about taking the 200?
All the fluids were changed at 100,000 miles. I also had the oil changed recently, and there are no fluid leaks.

Any record of coolant loss or frequent need to top off? If not, I'd not worry about the pump for that short of a trip. Not sure about the year range of the radiator problem. If you have the old part number stamping then I'd definitely consider replacing the radiator. And, of course, 'while you're in there' knock out the pump too.

Thanks for the feedback. I noticed since we have had cooler temps, after the vehicle sits overnight the coolant overflow has been about a quarter of an inch below the "Full" line. Otherwise when at running temp the overflow is above full. No obvious signs of a leak though.

If no crack on the radiator it will be totally fine for that trip.

That's completely normal and the reservoir tank is doing its job.

Does your radiator number plate look like this?

Or like this?

If the former, consider it time for a replacement.

If no crack, let the radiator stay, unless you just have to have it done for peace of mind. They usually take thousands of miles to fail from when the crack first appears… this is not a sudden failure type of issue.

Yep, you have the new part. Either it was replaced or the 2017 aged out of the problem. Roll with no regrets.

should be fine...
caveat.. my water pump was weeping at 97K miles.. it was pretty obvious during the oil change though.. just keep an eye on fluid levels like any car.
Not something I expected at that mileage in my 2017 (or really at 150K to be honest)

No, that's definitely still the old radiator, with the right-angle that tends to crack. The part should be more beveled on the front, and have the flat-flush-with-curved part in the middle of the rectangle instead of at the top of the rectangle. Like this:

Fair enough! I kinda knew the answer when I asked the question, I was just frustrated in the moment. I suppose if it happened within the first 15-30k then Toyota would recognize it. But after so many miles I’m sure they’re chalking it up to common wear and tear.

$1,200 later I have a new radiator, coolant flush, t-stat, oil change, tire rotation, engine bay detail, and driveline greased

So I should replace radiator + water pump when I return? I'll take some coolant withe me on the trip I guess.

Yeah, I think you're right. It has the new sticker and looks like it had a shelf on the back side, but the updated part is tanget to the crown in the middle and creates a 'waist' with taper on both sides. Good eye.

See how much it saves to do it while in there for the pump but if there is no crack there is no real need to change it. It doesn’t fail suddenly.

Had a quote recently from Toyota because my radiator cracked. $900 labor for radiator and $400 labor for pump, that was the while your in there price. Rad was $500 and $300 for the pump. Completely overpriced at $2100 but had it back 2 days and engine bay looks new, even came a new overflow tank.

Edit: they put a new belt on too
