Noticed last night after a movie (got some heavy ass rainfall out of the blue) that my windows were foggy. Go check the truck a little less than a day later, definite water smell. Leak is isolated to the third row area. Passengers side is dry, drivers side is a little moist on top, with most of the water coming from the padding underneath the carpet. The headliner is dry, so I don't think it's the roof rack seals. Noticed with the lower tailgate up that it doesn't form a seal on the drivers side like it does the passengers side. Thinking of adjusting the striker to get a better seal, anyone deal with this?
Kinda noticed this too after driving around death valley for a couple days. I got a ton of dust intrusion in the third row area, let in by what I assume is the tailgate rattling off the seals from hours of washboard which let dust in.

Bucket of water or hose…
Test it.

If it leaks…

Order new seal a at stealership (super easy…just pulls off & pushes on).

Water is definitely coming in from there. I actually have a feeling the seal is fine (applied some shin etsu) and the tailgate is slightly tweaked from one of my big ass friends sitting on it (or maybe just years of wear...). Oddly found a post from you years ago, gonna try that out to get it to seal again.

Tailgate cable anchor is problematic for sure. Also the general shape of the hatch that can be tweaked. Its a recurring issue. Just never had a leak from it. I replaced my seal because of dust making its way inside.

Also the latch bars that determine how tight the tailgate sits.

I was having an issue with my sons 98 Lx470 with water getting past the rubber gasket in the rear hatch. I took a rag and some AT-205 to revitalize the rubber, it worked. We’ve had rain for 24 hours straight here and I checked last night and the rear hatch area carpet is completely dry.

Heavy rain again. Cleaning out the main seal and rejuvenating it with shin etsu did the trick. Still had water intrusion, but this time from the upper tailgate seal. I parked it with the tailgate right under the roof overhang where there isn't a gutter, so the tailgate got drenched with way more water than it'll ever see. Looks like the water was overwhelming the little hole on the passenger upper seal and overflow bubbled into the cabin. Injected some APC into that seal and blew it out to improve flow, hopefully that'll get it.

It's mostly sealed. Only leaks if the upper tailgate seal gets overwhelmed with water (like full water hose blast to the top of the roof rack/spoiler intersection). Anyone with a rig of similar vintage mind blasting their seals and posting results?

Same problem! 🤦🏻‍♂️ rear carpet near tailgate soaked!
I ended up replacing both seals, fixed it permanently as far as I know. My 570 is long gone but I still have the part numbers.

Keep in mind there are sunroof drains back there too.
Usually the headliner is wet if it's those.
