Washers work but wipers don't

Hi all,
The windscreen washers are working but the wipers don't. I have checked the fuse (wiper/turn) and it is ok as the indicators are working. Is there a fusable link or another fuse somewhere in the system? or are the switches known to fail. I haven't heard of the wiper motors failing, just slowing right down.

Any ideas?

As far as i remember .......there is a switch below the wiper motor that turns the motor off when you fold the windshield down.........

As a rule all we have done is take the switch apart and clean the contacts,just 4 little tabs that hold it together. The washer motor is hot all the time and is grounded out by the switch. basically on another curcuit.

But it is pretty easy to TS
make sure you have a good windshield frame ground by connecting a jumper. Clean the fuse holder.
Disconnect the w/s connector, once disconnected with the switch in lo and high shoot the wires from the frame back to the switch and you should have continuity to ground in the High and Low position.

Check for 12 volts on the blue wire

Once you figure the switch out and know which is high and lo and power you can just run jumpers with power and ground to test the motor

I tested mine with jumpers, shot the switch and put it all together and reinstalled everything and they did not work---a couple light taps with a mallet on the motor case and away they went---and have worked since


The switch that controls park is on the motor box itself---at least on my 71 it is. The main power wire goes to the top contact on that

The park position allows the motor to run until it hits the right position for the wipers then sends 12 volts to both sides of the motor to lock it up quick

Thanks for the replies and top info,
It was the switch on the dash, it has also got an intermittent setting (must be the flash model) that was playing up and all seems Ok now.

mine only has intermittent in the malfunction mode;p
