Widscreen Wiper Problem

Driving home on Friday in one of the infamous African thunderstorms (2" of rain in 1hr) and the windscreen wipers died on me AAARRGGHH .
Once home I discovered that there was no 12V to the power supply wire to the motor, so I hot wired a 12V wire from fuse to motor terminal, but, now the wipers are only one speed  slow :hhmm: and Ive checked everything, even to the point of swopping the two motor brush connections (which gives the motor its 2 speeds) but I still end up with only one speed ~ SLOW :crybaby: . However the return to park function still works .

So it would appear as if one of the brushes in the motor is toast and I am almost certain that there are no spares/brushes available for the wiper motor

Has anybody else had a similar problem and is my analisys correct

- now to find a new or working used windscreen wiper motor.

It would be more likely that you have a blown fuse, bad ground, defective switch, or bad connection somewhere in the circuit. If you lost the +12V I would check the fuse first, then clean the fuse clips. Next check the harness connections. Something could have come unplugged.

ELECTRICKERY 101 ~ always check the fuse first - it was OK

Checked the switch - it was OK. Sprayed with Q20

Only two plugs in the harness for the wiper circuit - one into the wiper switch and the other into the wiper motor all checked, cleaned and then sprayed with Q20

The 12V feed wire must be broken somewhere

Mulit-meter/test light time!

Don't know about your 79, but on a 71 the +12V is a solid blue wire. This wire comes from the fuse block, to a bullet connector under the dash, then the other end goes to the harness going up to the windshield to the motor.

Good luck!

Yes - the solid blue is the 12V supply wire

I will try a used wiper motor from a 45 to see if I get two speeds, if not - like you say then its 12V test light time

Thanx
