I have not had this done before...however being on the other end you want to be sure to wash all traces of mud, etc. from the rig...its sorta like wearing a nice suit to an important meeting: It might not get you the deal but it sure won't hurt you either!

why start a new thread?

you had the situation's background and status there. a couple of hundred views and a decent number of posts from senior mudders.

Update. the warrenty rep denied the claim. he said the car was abused, and the warrenty doesnt cover abused vehicles. anything i can do at this point.

What was his evidence of "abuse"?

Mud in the wheel wells, and that teeth were broken off both foward and backwards.

Was the truck abused?
Be honest. :)

And what is a toyota platinum extended warrenty?
Is that above and beyond the factory warranty.

If you were light wheeling and fairly stock and it broke that bad; then I would stay on them and MAKE them warrenty it. I should say that honey tastes better than viniger. If someone comes in ready to fight, it will back him into a corner and he will not move. But if someone comes in calm and rational and talks it through he will likely be more helpful.

Or if you do have 33 or 35's and were wheeling hard etc... then I would eat it myself. Can't expect toyota to cover a busted diff that was your fault, any more than they could be expected to cover body damage.

Just my humble opinion.

Cheers,
Nick

i dont feel it was abused at all. its got stock size tires and was in reverse getting out of some mud, which the front wheels were stuck in. it wasnt anything extreme.

I don't think there is any "forward and backward" to breaking teeth off a ring gear. I think they just break off.

I would explain this to them.
Its not like you were using a Corolla in the mud.
It's a Land Criuser!

Was it deep mud that you were playing in?
Or just a section of mud on the trail?

Cheers,
Nick

Just contact an attorney and have them handle it. Go ahead and have it fixed and the attorney will get them to pay for the repair and his fee. You might just give them a call and let them know they will either cover the repair or you will get the attorney and pay for an add in the local paper stating that the extended warranty that this local dealer sells is not worth the paper it is printed on. I would also run the add buy the lawyer before you have it run. :)

I think if you pay an attorney to draw up a letter with appropriate threats like taking the dealer and Toyota to litigation, they'll change their minds, as all the legal hassle for them (even if they won) wouldn't be worth their time & money. It's a lot cheaper for them to replace the diff. They key is to hand them the papers on the official law firm letter head. Mere verbal threats isn't good enough.

I don't know about Toyota, but Acura refused to replace the transmission in my 97 3.0CL which has a known issue, and that I complained about from 10k miles until the 30k death of warranty. It died at 33k. I sued, won and eventually got 1200 bucks. I hope Toyota does the right thing.

So let me get this right ...

The diff breaking is covered under warrantee. However, if the diff breaks, you must have been abusing the car. Abusing the car isn't covered under warrantee.

So is the warrantee useless of fraudulent or both?

Maybe this "rep" wasn't even legit.

I would stay after them in a "nice" but persistent way, and let them know that you are prepared to write to the NY attorney general to complain. Writing to the top guy at TOyota Financial services.... and faxing the guy a letter will usually get something done. I'm away but PM me next week and I'll help you write the letter and find out where to fax it. The guys at the top don't like to get complaining letters from rational people.

I wonder if you got the warranty at Millenium. I got my 06 there and it took them 4 hours to deliver it while they made me wait and see if I was going to buy any of that extra stuff.

I would have brought them a spanking clean vehicle but mud in the wheel wells of a Toyota Land Cruiser doesn't constitute abuse, does it? I would say no friggin way.

Call Toyota customer service and file a complaint. Have your attorney write a letter to the dealer and send a copy to Toyota also.

What condition are your CVs? If the CVs are stilll tight, I don't know what they're talking about. I just about guarantee a CV or birefield will blow waaaay before a properly cut aand setup front diff. I'd definititely take it to a higher authority.

One last thought, what's the torque bias on the 2003 TLC's full time 4wd? Shouldn't the active trac have prevented a torque peakl cappable f blowing out the front diff?

I was a service writer/Ast manager for Toyota. Call Toyota and scream! Say the drives and Prius and would never touch gravel let alone go camping with his family..........

Toyota will pick it up, I promise! Get the Service manager involved and Toyota rep. Warranty clerk will have his number on speed dial.

There are reasons you bought this rig and there were reasons why you bought the warranty.............Just because someone says no is BS.

Talk to the Tech asap and get his opinion, this will back you as the rep is NOT an expert and is to find a way out of the claim.

If you do believe you were under normal driving then make a loud noise. It will get handled!

Clean or no clean, some people live in gods country and have dirt roads. this dirt turns to mud when it rains....They cannot be bias where you live and the roads you take. Not everyone lives in suburbia and BMW.

Bringing it in the way it was shoews that you were not trying to fraud Toyota. IMHO

You are in favor here. I broke three front differentials on my 99 LX470. They finally installed a stronger 2000 unit. They flat bedded the truck every time and hauled it 250 miles from Greer, AZ to Tucson.

My truck had 33' BFG's, ARB with 12K winch and was covered in mud every time.

They need to fix your truck if you were simply doing light-moderate offroading. This is what the trucks are supposed to do.

TRAC is a 2-stage system. If light throttle is applied the system will kick in and crawl you ahead. If you give it more gas the system will kick out and allow the wheels to spin in order to not get stuck. (Mud, sand, etc.)
