Warn/Belleview 5687 Questions (Plastic Bushings..)

Picked this up from a buddy today, had a couple questions...

- are the mounting bolts the same as the 8274? (7/16 coarse)
- does it just take regular gear oil?
- plate says "model 6000". I assume that means it's a 6000lb capacity?
- could someone post some pics of the mounting of this winch or an 8274? There were a number of threads on this, but not many of them had pictures still on file.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: New question at the bottom!

7/16 NC sounds right.

IIRC, SAE 30 oil is spec'd. Any old motor oil will work fine.

"Rated" for 6000 pounds. Realistically should be good for about 8K or so.

I made my own custom bumper, which worked out well since the winch's bolt pattern is oddball.

Bad pic but you get the idea:

I was told by someone (can't remember who) that a Bellevue had the same bolt pattern as an 8274.

it's not identical, but it's very similar....Bellevue uses 6 bolts to mount....4 on the gear side, two on the bearing side....8274 only uses 4 mount holes.

Nice winch....get yourself a 1/4" thick flat plate, drill the 6 holes to match the winch, cut an openiing for the wire to feed, cut an opening on the front bumper, drill 3 holes there for the winch to bolt thru, and tack the plate on. Align the cable slot in the center, horiz and vert.

From the picture above your post it looks almost as though it's a solid piece of bar, so I can see how the plate that would bolt on the winch would plate up against that.

But will I be able to use my stock bumper w/ the c-channel design? I saw on my search here that there is some sort of bracket that coolcruisers or manafre or someone makes to bolt to the stock cruiser bumper to mount an 8274. Has anyone gotten these or could someone pass along the dimensions to me? (Reason I ask is, I don't have a welder and my buddy w/ a welder is pretty busy this time of year, so a bolt on deal would be ideal).

Finally, forgot to put in my first post, that I'm missing the cable/cable mechanisms as seen here: http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/oldwarn.php
Does anyone have an old one laying around that they won't use that they might want to sell to me? Otherwise, what can I use to get the brake and clutch working? (already have a solenoid hooked up to run the power).

Thanks!

My bumper is 2"x4" rect tube with a 1/4" plate added above for the upper winch bolts. You can see the 3 bolts on the upper plate - there are 3 more across the main bumper body directly below them. There is also an extra bolt on the bumper for the left side of the fairlead. The 3 lower winch bolts go all the way through the bumper, while the extra bolt for the fairlead just goes to a captive nut inside the bumper.

The easiest way would be how Woody described. The stock bumper is, in my opinion, not up to the task without some reinforcement all the way across between the frame rails.

The bolt pattern is not the same. As far as I know, nobody makes a bolt on for the belleview anymore. I seem to recall one on ebay a while back, so I think they were made at one time, but it's a bolt pattern that hasn't been used in over 30 years.

I used to have a set of the cables but ended up selling them. I tried to use them and just found it cumbersome, not to mention in the way of EVERYTHING in the engine compartment. I operate the brake and gearbox manually on mine. I set up a solenoid instead of the cable-operated switch and wired up a 20 foot remote into my glove box. In-cab controls sound nice, but I found that I did more winching from outside than inside, and the remote allows me to do both. Beside that, somebody's got get out to run the cable anyway - it's no big deal to release the brake and put it in gear.

HTH,
Eric

Here is how mine is on...Just threw the winch on tho, it's not completely mounted...still saving up for some rope and new fairlead. Mine is the #8000 version.

For anyone that has replaced the plastic bushings at the ends of the housing...

Looking down at the bottom of the "Warn 5687 Information" page, there is a table that has the replacement bearings listed. On the winch that I picked up, it needs some new plastic sleeve bearings and you say that the general size listed by McmasterCarr can be turned down to size.

When it says turned down to size, is this just the length they're talking about? Would it not be possible to install the bushings in place and then just trim them to size?

One other thing, I talked to the folks at MN 4wheeldr (or whatever their name is) and he says they need an additional seal now as well as the plastic bushing? Anyone confirm this?

Thanks again
