I'm desperate to take the engine off the floor and drop the whole thing in the 40. Now I have this IV generation Vortec (2007 LY5) and everything is electrical and it's a crucial piece I need to calculate the distance from the radiator. Here's the story:
I'm downgrading the cooling system to be Mechanical and by researching I can use almost any III generation fan clutch:

- Is this true?
- Does Serpentine belt spins same directions from IV to III generations?
- Is there a difference to obtain a Fan cluth from a 06 Savana from 2wd to AWD?

Last:
Haven't bought the radiator yet, but, Is the Fan Blade standard in Diameter to all Vortec's?

Sorry for too many questions, but will apreciate all inputs.

Here are some Pics from working on last night !

Thanks Lil'Jon. If the engine rotates reverse, then I'll probably will have to change the Water pump in order to run them mechanical Fan clutch, and I'm sure I'll have to change the belt size as well?
There's so many model vortec engines out there that is hard to keep up with what part fits what. And probably you are right about the "Downgrade" word, is just the fact I like the previous model setup raher than newer style.
I will look at your build, and I'm sure I'll ask more questions regarding this issue !

I was just looking quickly at your build and your 55 is outstanding ! .

Thanks for measuring the fan blade, It helps me since I don't own one yet. And making clear the reverse water pump.
The stub is threaded on my pulley. It measures aprox 1 1/8 of an inch in diameter.

Is that a 5.3 or 6.0 Engine? Don't confuse those engines with the ones in the cars... my comments don't apply if the abov engine is the "car" version...6.2 liter?

Use the fan and fan clutch that match the vehicle that the engine assembly came out of. Simply go to rock auto web site, look up your vehicle and go to the cooling area...for most vehicles they have the GM radiator fan and matching radiator fan clutch.

The fan and clutch are similar across the pickup and Yukon / Tahoo line.

on most trucks the 2wd and 4wd run the same configuration.

YOu can check this by looking up various trucks on Rock Auot and noting the part numbers.

any year lsx mechanical fan will screw on the pump pulley. you dont have to change water pump or pulley to run a mechanical fan. I will 2nd looking at ls1tech and performancetruck.net "the truck side of ls1tech". You should be able to find a used one on one of those 2 sites.

That all sounds simple, but with my luck something has to happen (lol). I'll look at the ls1tech website !
Thanks

I have a 2007 5.3 19 inch fan, all you have to do is call BTB Products they have the fan and clutch set up you need and loads of info for the vortec. I needed the fan and the chevy dealer was 100.00 bucks more than BTB. hope this helps. I am a few months from a frame off of my 71, 5.3 4l60e ,mini truck conversion.

Thanks; I'll look into it !

I just looked at BTB products; They look like neat parts, but I agree with Lil'John, you can get OEM replacement parts anywhere.
Just got some Part numbers for the the fan clutch and fan blade of a 01-07 sierra 1500, just need to confirm tomorrow if they are
reverse rotation components, then I'll post the part numbers.

One thing I have to say about the BTB Radiator is that fits the original FJ40 support bracket and they sell the Shroud for it, but not sure if it's worth the $ compared to labor and fabication.

your last words are very true, but wouldn't think of it myself since don't have the experience doing this type of work !

I guess for now all I need to have is the clutch and fan blade to install my setup. I'll have to deal with the rest when my work lets me :crybaby:!

Got the parts this week, and here are the part Numbers for future reference:
- AC Delco Fan Clutch # 15710101
- AC Delco Fan Blade # 15017911
