@megolfer shouldn’t have to bump all of the threads of members who have had issues individually. However, in light of removing Communication Portal 4 again in the same manner as CP 1-3 and the comments shared in good faith by frustrated customers, this seems to be a pattern to control negative feedback.

This round-up seems appropriate. I’ve consolidated posts from folks who chose to raise their issues in their own thread. I hope this helps.

Additional posts in the thread will be added as links.

This won’t be deleted as Matt consistently does with his Communication Portal to remove negative feedback from this section.

Matt is prone to blocking people who hold him accountable for his bad behavior. I hope not but, I may be joining his list. He has the prerogative to ignore customers here too, it would at least be consistent with his current posture when customers inquire about their orders.

EDIT: July 24, 2025 Addition posting of money taken and product not recieved.

This seems appropriate.

I look back 20 years to when a local fabricator was heading down the drain, and I considered posting a few kind words. Not being forum savvy (not that I’m all that savvy now!) I reached out to Georg to vet my posts. He patiently explained to me how every one of my proposed posts could be misconstrued. Every one of them. Law of unanticipated consequences.

I never knew what doxxing was until @jembourbe alluded to it 5 or 10 years ago. And I hadn’t stopped to consider ToyotaMatt’s deleted communication portal thread as doxxing until @Casey E pointed it out. But once I thought about it, I realized that Casey was right, and that thread needed to go away just as a matter of unanticipated consequences. Way too much information being posted publicly.

It’s all just so sad. And avoidable.

Well, now it's done: ToyotaMatt is no longer a forum member. Really another great resource lost, and it's threads like this that pushed it.

Plenty of blame to go around, but it's not all the vendors'. Not defending VTP business, it's the same old story of getting over-whelmed and not knowing how to handle growth or moderate it.

But again, not all VTPs fault - I mean, how does a vendor deal with a customer that sees a webpage for 2F Thermostat housing bolts and gaskets, orders, then blows up the forums when the $25 kit arrives but doesn't include the pictured lower thermostat housing? "It's pictured !!" (page even states bolts/gaskets only). This is just one example of the Amazonization of commerce, and there's a lot of people out there who just don't or can't get the difference and it's the small business that gets hammered not being able to keep up or afford help.

I guess I'm a bit angry about this, even though reading Matt's posts is like trying to decipher a Jack Kerouac stream-of-conscious novel, but Matt was still a great resource.

The VTPs website is still open for business, and Matt is hard at work fulfilling orders. Maybe the unavailability here, will drive traffic to the site.

Just my 0.02 adjusted for inflation.

C'mon man, you know that you are gaslighting the consumer. 99.9% of people with complaints here just wanted the parts they paid for that were advertised as being available on his website. You are always going to have terrible customers as a vendor that weren't worth the profit on the parts you sold them, but that isn't what happened here.... to claim that is just disingenuous.

There is just no excuse to stand up for the way he conducted his business through this forum.

I had many transactions and conversations with Matt without a single negative complaint. That doesn't erase the overall picture of what took place over the last few years.

I said I'm not defending his business. Matt F'd up, a lot; He knows it. Simple effective communication would have ameliorated much of the complaints, and he didn't do that ... But there's always more to a story than what makes it into print.

That's all I have to say.

Good grief, another shyster gone !
honestly though...the entertainment value will be lost.

Not trying to make light of anyone's financial loss, defiantly not- but perusing the new thread(s) dedicated to him and his shenanigans every couple of days was almost part of a subconscious routine for me.

As someone who still is waiting for an order to be fulfilled Im a bit worried I've lost my only means of communicating w/ him, but I understand the decision. I also hope that I can work out communication through his website

Contact your credit card company. We have seen this happen with multi vendors on this forum, when it goes south you better get your money back fast so you don’t end up like other forum members who are owed tens of thousands from the wits end bankruptcy.

I mean 14+ threads about being a bad seller, who could have seen this coming.

Someone who knows him better than me told me that most of the stuff he advertises isn't built or even in his possession most of the time when he lists it on his website. Seems like a pyramid scheme to me if true where he's using new orders to buy supplies to fulfil older orders.

Sorry for those that have been screwed over by him. Contact your credit card company and file a charge back now. I too have been burned by him, but stopped dealing with him a few years ago. Not worth the headache.

I was 110% convinced that he was not a native English speaker due to the incoherent rambling posts. After learning that is not the case, this situation makes wayyyy more sense.
I spoke to him on the phone a few years ago and there was a little bit of a language barrier, but in this day and age things like google translate exist and are seemingly very proficient so I can't really justify him using it as a crutch.

That being said, the posts were very rambling. I think too he took on so many orders and buyers that he was unable to keep things organized in a way that when talking to someone, he remembered who they were and what their order/issue was.

Sucks for everyone who spent their hard earned money for products they expected to receive in a timely manner and are now set back on money and the parts they were awaiting to complete their projects/repairs.

For me, his prices were wayyyyy too much, but they were pretty to look at. That is the way of the "free market". Like he was upcharging the cost of Oem Toyota fuses, and I was able to find them for a member here for a huge discounted price, still from Toyota, even though he claimed they were long discounted.

lots of very knowledgeable members here and great vendors that put in hard work in making their customers happy

I bought from him last year, it took several months to get what I ordered and some posts on mud to get him going.

The stuff I ordered was great, but after that experience I took by business elsewhere. Surprised people were still willing to deal with him.

I found his address at one point, and not saying this to imply anything nefarious at all, but maybe a visit from some mud members would help?

Thought would be people willing to dedicate some time to help him get everything that he has on hand processed, packed and shipped.
If it really is a case of "I am drowning in orders and trying to balance this, a full time job and a family" type ting this type of action would help (presuming he also has a full time job outside of this).

But if he's just drop shipping over half his orders like Land Cruiser Parts - CruiserParts LLC - https://cruiserparts.net/ then that is out of any of our control.

I have lost the address anyways...

**To be clear, I say the above not to excuse his continued horrific communication and seemingly toyota parts Ponzi scheme.
In no way am I trying to offend or devalue anyone's financial losses or give him a get out of jail free card.

Did anyone ever figure out what Snow Version meant? One of MUD's greatest mysteries.

Apparently, but I haven't verified, there is or was a 'Cold Spec' for some components destined for places like Norway, etc, that see extreme cold. Probably not designated as such by Toyota, but nevertheless, built for demanding climate.... I think for Matt is just became 'branding', albeit, a bit confusing. Since he's no longer here to ask, we'll never know...

Did anyone ever figure out what Snow Version meant? One of MUD's greatest mysteries.

My 93 HDJ81 was not marked with the "snow version" sticker, but seemed to have all of the same options.

Snow version 80 options, as far as I can tell:
  • Radiator "curtian"
  • Fuel heater
  • Rear LSD
  • Heated seats
  • Rear heater
  • 24v Starter
Maybe more I'm forgetting

I can't confirm, since he blocked anyone from seeing his prior posting history even a couple years ago when I was investigating. This is all speculation but I had a hunch.

He was selling "NOS" alternators and appeared to have an abundance of them looking new. Sure, you can strike a hidden mine and find them, no doubt. But I'd imagine that most of them were used up not just for Toyota but other Japanese vehicles. Anyway, during some point in time, he was looking to replicate the metal tag plates that read "nippo denso" and the Toyota part number. Eventually he did managed to perfect the metal tags and my hunch was that he was getting these random rebuilt alternator and sticking the "new" metal tags on them. Then up selling them for a huge mark up.

Of course I can be wrong, but it had me curious. Also, could he have been the guy that was charging a lot for the oem Toyota H4 headlight kits? Then some guy found the part number and found them still being sold, brand new, from Toyota marked down by 80% from his price. They were about $50 at the time and the up charge was about $200. Again, speculation :p

I might get flamed for it, but hey, I want my questions answered o_O
