Well, just was talking about this with one of my co-workers who has been all over VI, and turns out he's been to Donner lake a number of times. Was about 15 years ago though. Anyhow, he showed me a bunch of pictures of when he was there and explained some details of how to get there. He said almost no one goes out there. He also said it was bar none the best fishing he's ever done. The biggest trout he's ever caught were in this lake, and very easy to catch even casting from shore. Said the drive is really rough, but is doable. He did it in a stock-ish old Nissan 4x4 back then. Said it is a huge lake and absolutely breath taking scenery; pictures don't do it justice, especially the size of the mountains. Also said there is lots of spots to camp, and you can drive within 50ft of the lake. Wind comes up strong on the lake in the afternoon, so have to be careful if in a boat. Takes a day to canoe from one end to the other.

Sounds pretty promising.

ok i'll start the ball rolling on my end. this sounds like a blast, the furthest ive been up the island is campbell river. ill see if i can ralley up a few more rigs too.

Hey Burnz, if you don't mind lets keep this run to cruisers only as it is a pretty unique event for the club. If you know of more people with cruisers who may be interested, by all means invite them to join us.

Sounds great burnz! We'll try to get a meeting in before this trip too. Maybe up your way this time. Could split the difference between members in Victoria and Cowichan.

:idea:Got a great idea, hows about Cam and Ryan run up in the diesel volksy, hook up the M101, drop the roof top tent on it.... Boys could do some serious late night spooning....

Hey all, I've updated the first post with information regarding this trip. The dates and goals for the weekend are confirmed. The trip is organized so that people with only the weekend available can participate. Those that have more time will continue exploring the back country in the same area for a couple more days. I'll continue updating the first post as the plans develop over the next couple months.

Sounds good, I just read the update. I'll be bringing a large chainsaw, extra recovery cable, as well as usual gear. Not sure we'll be the first
group in to Donner, but ATV'rs tend to cut routes 48" wide. I have no radio - AM/FM/FSR?CB or anything.
Just like to listen to the soft whine of the turbo :hillbilly:

Sounds good. I've got a spare FRS radio you can throw in your truck if you want...

Thx Nick. I'm going to pack a couple of paddles and lifejackets in case that canoe is still serviceable.

Great. I was going to do the same, but won't bother now.

I was also tempted to bring my heavy aluminum canoe on this trip too, but I think it would end up being a real PITA if the trails get rough and grown in. Truck is already 7' tall. Adding another 2-3' plus opportunities for branches to get caught is probably not a smart idea...

Unfortunately I have to work on the Monday after, and it's a little too far for a one nighter. Sounds like an awesome trip though.

Sorry to hear. No way you can get that Monday off eh?

Rubicon is off the books, so lets go camping...

Glad to hear you are going to join us

Would my little camper make it into the lake area?

I don't know, have to see what Nick thinks. But according to the KLR rider blog, it might be a push. Probably get it into
Kunlin Lk, after that.....?
