Not sure if my new 4Runner is something anyone cares to hear about, but . . . gotta post to see :)

We had to downsize from a 2004 family vehicle and a '85 offroad vehicle to one that combines both elements, plus serves as a daily driver for my son until he can buy his own vehicle.

First off - this thing is pretty built already thanks to Steelman who is on here and lives in Charlotte. I am really just going to log the things I do to it from here out

He did a VERY clean/nice job on this truck - I appreciate it every time I drive it!!

Already done:

SAW 2.5" C/O (set around 2.0")
Camburg UCAs
OME Rear 906 w/ leveling spacer
BFG KO2 285/70/17 FJ 8-Holes
ARB Front Winch Bumper
Superwinch
4xInnovations Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier
4xInnovations Sliders
ARB Rr Air Locker
Spidertrax Spacers

Pic as it was when I got it.

Looks very nice ....

I got one, 2001 with some modifications but nothing big. People stop me wanting to but it. I just cannot sell it.

That is a sharp 3rd gen! (Don't do the body lift, you have the armor.) :)

^^ Just doing a 1/2" to get the body off the sliders, really. They are too tight together, almost rubbing.

Kinda learned how to solder wires - -taught kids. We have light on the license plate that had a few splices - decided to just solder it and shrink wrap it.

Need to find a better light solution for the lic plate :(

We tested the LC wheels with 33's on the new 4Runner. With the Spidertrax, they stick out too far. I ordered some .75" spacers for the LC wheels.

Anyone need the 8-hole FJ Cruiser wheels with BGF AT K02 tires on this truck? Both are practically new. PM me if so. Otherwise we will save for Son's rig. (SOLD)

I think Jason was looking for those exact wheels.

On the tires/wheels - - I added more detail above.

Last night I tucked the CB antennae wires under the passenger side carpet and plastic kick plate area.

I picked up this thing off Amazon:

Antenna Mount.webp

Hoping I can attach to the top of the rear bumper's tire holder, so when it is opened it doesn't pull on the cable. I was dumb and bought a 3' Firestik, so need to get it up higher on the vehicle.

I also need to find a way to keep my CB out of the way - - would love to just hang it from the rear view mirror somehow. I have one of these:

More to work on :)

Go to a Love's or Flying J (or any truck stop for that matter) and you can find hooks that co on the handset and will hang on the rear view mirror. As I recall, they are $5 or less ....

My 3rd Gen (2001) is my DD and primary off-road rig as well. I keep thinking I should sell it and get into an 80, but then I put more $$ into it and it gets that much harder to sell.
I have 891s out back. Not sure I'd recommend it unless you were planning on a drawer system that you're going to keep full.
I bought mine in anticipation of just such a mod. Prior to the CBI rear bumper, they were WAY to harsh and uncomfortable. It was to the point that I'd catch myself wincing a bit in anticipation of bumps in the road. With the CBI with swing-out I'm about 125-150 heavier out back and they are tolerable. With your rear bumper and the sliders you might be OK. Now, all that said, fully laden with all my stuff and a passengers stuff something like 20 gallons of water heading out to Hurricane Creek, they were great.
Bottom line: the 891s are nice springs when loaded up, just think it through before the switch.

How do you like the Camburg UCAs? I've been thinking about a set when its time to through the front end.

I had a 2002 4Runner that was overlifted with 3" up front and stressed UCA/UBJ and about 5" in the back with the mid/tall Land Cruiser front Springs in it. It had a CBI w/ '99 axles and elocker on the back. (bought it this way knowing I needed to lower it, but not knowing much else).

When I moved down to 2.5" up front (removed a spacer) and to 891s in the back, it was night/day difference in ride quality - - loved it. But perhaps I was used to something pretty horrible, before. It was all OME front/back after the rear spring change. That truck was a lot of fun to drive - felt great with the changes.

The Camburg UCA's look nice and the articulation looks great. I don't think I can know the situation until I take it on some trails, etc. I love the idea of NOT having to press out the UBJ again, but it is weird seeing an open ball there vs a sealed one. I had a friend basically do the UBJ on my last truck for me (I helped) and we really had a time of it.

I'm obviously a bit partial to 4Runners, so I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with it. Looks good!
