I just came across this picture. The dashboard is clearly black along with the steering wheel which is what I would like to do with my VDJ78. Does anyone know if this a option for the VDJ series? I found a black steering wheel and airbag via an action here in Japan, but it stated GRJ76 on the listing. If that is correct, then wouldn't the dash, etc., be interchangeable with VDJ series? I know that in taking my dashboard out, it is symmetrical, i.e., Toyota built them so that they are swappable between right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive.

That appears to just be a brightness/contrast adjustment on that picture. You can see the cup holder is very much darker than the dash(as is the trim of the headunit) and other trim. Meaning its black and the rest is dark grey as usual. As for the steering wheel, I think there are other models with black that have the same spline as this steering column. Maybe hilux?

However you could always prep and paint your interior parts with paint like SEM.

That is all grey

I found these in a listing on Autotrader SA....apparently I have too much time on my hands today :)

Grey

Now that I have looked closer, I think you are right, it's a grey interior. I have seen the grey interior in person and it is not even remotely that dark.

That Namib interior looks black, but I couldn't find any reference in the PDF that you uploaded. I tried searching PartsouQ and Megazip yesterday but all I could find was grey and oak trim. I already painted mine with Raptor Liner but.....if I could find a black interior I would rather go that route. The Raptor Liner is not bad, just a bit too much texture. There are lot of the GRJ76 in Japan, almost a dime a dozen, but I have never been able to get close enough to see the interiors.

The 30th Anniversary GRJ76 I have driven (and the others ive seen, matching parts souq info) are all grey, no black.

You can thin Raptor WAY down and spray with an HVLP gun to get a very low texture. Even their "Pro" gun will spray a very fine texture right out of the bottle. Wonder if you can sand your stuff a little then respray. It's really forgiving stuff.

We spray a lot of stuff with SEM interior spray dye/paint. Great stuff. You could paint/dye all the plastics that way and then send your steering wheel out and have it wrapped in black leather...then paint/dye the air bag. A dye'd steering wheel would never hold up. You could also grab a black wheel out of any other Toyota and use that....pretty interchangeable. The newer 4Runners/Tacomas/Land Cruiser 200s have some cool looking wheels and they come in black.

The dye works great....just not the strongest stuff in the world. Not like that Raptor....that's strong.

Interesting that this cubby is part of the package. Wonder if it's a factory piece OR if it's aftermarket since these are available everywhere. Maybe the aftermarkets are copies of the factory piece. Hmmmmmm.

The one I found for sale on Autotrader didn't have it.

That's what I'm thinking of doing with the Raptor Liner. I rattle-canned it so it's a bit rougher than I anticipated. Here's a photo of the interior. It's not bad. Definitely better than the brown. If you look out the front window you will notice that I also removed the Toyota badge from the front of the hood. I don't know why certain countries like the UAE prefer it, but Australia doesn't. It was an eye sore! I also replaced the door sides with Baltic Birch 6.5 mm painted in Dove Gray Raptor lined which turned out just fine. There are a lot of things that I want to change. The lack of a tach is next on the list. And I should have it within the next couple of weeks. I have a steering wheel leather wrap on order from Amazon. Thinking of Raptor lining the steering wheel air-bag. And then onto the seats and pop-up roof. I've been trying to find a Unichip on line (new or used), but no luck.

You must REALLY hate the tan. Lol. That's a lot of work to get rid of it all. Are you going to do the flooring in grey?

The Raptor doesn't look half bad. Amazing stuff. Our rep was telling me that people spray leather couches with it. No idea why someone would do that.

Marks Adaptors, he must be expanding into all sorts extras. Cheap at $149 AUD

I don't know why but I hate any color other than grey or black in an automobile. I could have ordered a grey interior with OAK TRIM but that was even worse than plain tan. I would have gone that route but the center diff locks were not factory on any of the OAK TRIM models. I asked the dealer and he said that it would be pain and expensive to have them installed later. That's why I settled on tan. I want to change the flooring too. I threw away the tan flooring in the rear since it's covered in 18mm Raptor Lined Baltic Birch. Didn't see any need for it. There were three side facing seats in the rear, which are not allowed in Japan so I also threw them away. I found a used bench seat from a GRJ76 and put it in the back for the kids. It folds down so that the entire back is a sleeping platform. I did the same set up as Expeditions 7, but after the fact realized that there is no way to sit in the back when the weather is bad which is very common in Japan, so this is the next plan I have. There will be gull-wing windows on all four windows, one for a kitchen setup and another for the electrical. I'm going to change everything to 12mm with the exception of the sleeping platform - it may be 15mm. The fridge will be on a slide out and there will be a low box in the center for the batteries. I'll be able to sit inside because everything else will be in hard and soft boxes. This is the current plan, but it may change. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the 18mm Baltic Birch that used for my current layout is too heavy. I can only imagine how heavy Expeditions 7 must have been in the photos that I have seen. Even with my V8 there is huge difference empty and after the install of the boxes/sleeping platform. I still have plenty of torque but going up and down the mountains here uses a lot of fuel.

They look crass and I bet the Australian Standards for vehicles dont like them on safety grounds.

It was common in the 70s and 80s but in this day and age...seems a bit like chrome. It has it's place, just not on anything that I own. With that said, I also Raptor lined the front grill, which was chrome. There is still some, like the door handles, but it doesn't bother me as much.

Part number suffix for color black is C0. B0 is bluish gray, and E0 is Oak. If the major part number hasn't changed, substituting the C0 at the end should get you the parts, in black, if they exist.

@Don Lacer '18 VDJ78 steering wheel (only, not the center button) is the same as one available on the 200 series and can be found in black.

So does that mean than that the part number is actually for the 200 series? Meaning, there is a black steering wheel which will fit the VDJ78, from a 200 series, but there is not an actual VDJ78 wheel available in black? Since the center is not available in black. Just to prevent confusion.

FWIW, the 200 steering wheel is interchangeable with the 2nd gen Tundra. Tundra steering wheels and airbags are a dime a dozen. I swapped an 08 Land Cruiser leather/wood wheel into my old Tundra, the air bag and all trim/controls swapped right over.
