I live in Northern VA and have a 77 FJ 40 restoration project that is almost complete. Repairs, replacements, and upgrades are too numerous to mention but the big ticket items are: the original 2F engine has been torn down, rebuilt, reassembled; and put into the vehicle. It has a new fuel tank with all of the fuel lines hooked up and a new radiator and thermostat. I rebuilt or replaced all of the knuckles and suspension parts, rebuilt the brake calipers and installed new pads in the front and all new drum brakes in the back. I also installed a new wiring harness. Also did all the body work and had it professionally painted.
What I need is someone to get the engine running (I have a new HEI coil and a Carburetor), install a new clutch (I have the whole new clutch kit still in the box), mate the tranny with the motor, install the propeller shafts, hook up and bleed the brake lines, and if possible hook up the cooling system to the motor. In a perfect world they would also install the heating lines (I have all of the parts) and get the heater running. FYI--I also rebuilt the heater fan motor and the rear heater blower and both are installed and working.
Here's my dilemma: It has been with a local shop that is famous for Land Cruiser work for over a year. For whatever reason they can't seem to get it across the finish line. I am tired of waiting and would like to find a shop in my area that can help me get this thing up and running. I've done some looking and found: Iron Pig in Fredericksburg, VA; Land Cruiser Heaven in MD, And Coles Imports in Charlottesville, VA.
Any experience or recommendations with any of these three shops? If not any recommendations for a place that is within a day's drive of Northern VA that specializes in FJ40s? I'm willing to work with a shade tree FJ expert as long as he can get it done in a reasonable amount of time.
Thanks guys!
