Hi All,

I have a 1994 FZJ80, I need to get the head rebuilt and was hoping I could get some guidance from the local crowd.

Please feel free to PM me or call me at: 801-722-9509

Thanks in advance!

Jensen auto & machine in Ogden. They did mine on my Cruiser. I've had them do dosens of heads for our shop and in my opinion they are absolutely top notch.

I hate to ask this question but what is a rough estimate to have a quality head rebuild done by a reputable shop? I need to start planning for this one eventually.

I paid just under $600 to have the valves done, new valve seals, surfaced head for flatness and general cleaning. I think I had about $1500 worth of parts that I bought for the HG job alone, but I also replaced a bunch of other stuff while I was in there which might have been another $800 or so, but I would have to really look.

I am not a pro, but it took me about 25 hours of labor to do mine(I took longer, but I also ran every bolt, bracket and part through my wire wheel to clean them up). I can't see how anyone could do it much faster than 12 hours unless they did them all the time though. It's a lot of dinking around to even get down to the head and then pulling it takes time if you follow the FSM. I did not thread the wire harness through the lower intake manifold, which does save some time.

It's not that hard of a job, but I had close to 40 ziplock bags labeled with each set of bolts or fasteners, etc and a 2'X4' piece of plywood full of larger parts that came off and a big stack below that. If you don't clean any of that stuff up, you will save time, but cleaning them does make it easier to put back together and it looks much nicer and will be easier to see if you have issues down the road. I also painted a bunch of parts including the valve cover, but I don't count that as labor, especially for folks outside of the salt belt.

Yep, you have wonder why anyone would 'jump' their vehicle (4' of air under the front axle) on purpose?

I'm thinking the 'head' will be the least of his worries if that continues.
