My springs are getting old.
If I can find some (free anyone??? :) ) used OEM or OME springs, how can I tell if they are still good?
Which has more affect on the springs age or milage?
I assume all years 80 springs will work on my '94???

Kurt, I've got a set, they've been holding down the running boards on the side of the garage, waiting for a Runner guy to come along and swoop them up. Hasn't happened yet, so let me know if you want them. Not sure how to tell how good they are, other than when installed the truck looked like this.. (285 75 r16's)

nakman,Thanks for the offer. How many miles on them?

I still need to know how to tell if used springs are good or better than mine.
Can they be measured (off the vehicle)? Do they get shorter as they get old?

My stock shocks are for sure shot as bumps in the road cause the suspension to bottom out.
We had a full load of kids in the 80 and it realy bottomed out.

Kurt,

Got my original 97 ones with 5k miles on them. Let me know or if you want a pic.

PMed you. Does the springs come with the 80 too :D

Kurt , I have some les than useful info for you ... :D

I obtained all my OME stuff used ... Landtank and another fella sold me their stuff . I don't even recall how many miles it all had on it , but I can tell you without a doubt that it was the best purchase(s) I ever made . The ride improved dramatically .. etc etc . Very , very glad I did it .

PS : Now even my most severe Starbuck curbs are within my grasp !! ;)

I checked the Fallow Spring to see how much clearance there is. I can fit my finger (about 20mm) on the right side (pass side) and can fit about 2 1/2 fingers between the bump stop and axle housing on.
Its less on the left side (driver side).
This is with ARB winch bumper without the winch.

Did we do a measurment on this at one time?

What I need is to find a slightly damaged/totaled 80 with low mi,TRD SC, OME suspension, good pass side glass, bad t-case.... for only, lets say---------- $1000 :D

Thanks to Bill, his springs are on the way to my house.

Now for shocks.
As I have ARB bumper,Slee Slider w/running boards and kids stuff in the back of the 80, what shocks do I use with newer OEM springs?
I am trying to keep the $$$ down but at some point I will get OME lift springs.
Is there a cheap shock that will go with both stock and lift springs?

If you're going to spend money on shocks and realistically are going to invest in some OME springs then I'd go with OME shocks now. This way you won't be spending money twice on shocks. I know this might be a little heavier of a hit today but it's like money in the bank. Also I doubt the bottoming out is from bad shocks, their job is dampening the springs movement not limiting it.

I am having a hard time believing that you will notice a difference in ride from differenct OEM spring to a new (still quite used) OEM spring.......

let us know if you see a differnce?

Went to Auto Zone and saw they have FREE loaner tools.
I took the spring compression tool.
I haven't looked up how to remove the springs yet but if I do need this tool I am ready to go. If not, I am not out toooooo much :D

I will do some measurments before I swap them out.

Was that post with all the measurments with OEM and OME suspension on the MUD or SOR?
Anyone have the link?

Is there anything else I need to change when I swap them out?

Do I use stock shackles or go with OME greasable shackles? :D

What is this about a Runner guy? Will my OEM 80 springs will fit on my girlfeind's '99 4runner? How much will the lift be? Will these springs work as struts? Where is more information on this? Cheers

Kurt,
Avoid the spring compression tool. Follow the installation instructions on the Slee site.

Knowing how long those shocks have been on there and how many problems you've been having with rust and everything else, then you might check with C-Dan on getting new lower shock bolts for the rear shocks. I'm betting you're going to have a tough time getting those out without busting something.

Start soaking all the shock bolts now and hourly between now and the time you're ready to start the project.

I believe it's 2nd gen. runners that can use 80 series springs on the back for 2-3" of lift, but I'm really not sure. The answer is most definitely in http://www.yotatech.com/ though, that's where many of them Runner guys tend to hang out..

My brother put new springs on, didn't notice much difference. I don't remember the mileage, perhaps he'll chime in???

I will retutn the compression tool.
Do I have to use OEM rear shock boots?
Will a grade 8 bolt of same size work?
