If I ever want to get a used 1FZ for my '94 and find a 1FZ out of a '95 or newer do I need to swap out the computer?
What about the trany?
Will a 94 1FZ work with an A343F?
Will a 95+ 1FZ work with an A442F?

Don't know on the tranny, but would assume they would since the motor didn't change. The computer did however on the 95s to a lot faster computer from what I understand. Prolly running windows...:flipoff2:

My guess is that the long block is the same. Some sensors and the wiring harness would be different, but you could swap them over. You would want to use your 94 intake and exhaust manifolds and they should bolt up to a later head.

Totally guessing, but I would bet at least a dollar on it.

How can this -

It is prolly running Linux :flipoff2:

FZ-FE Engine 1993-1997 Complete unit, Ready to install. 54k miles $2,500

It doesn't say the year. If its a 97 then there would be some emission changes. So I would need to use the computer from that truck. Thats not a big deal. Making sure the trany will work with the motor is.(and the head gasket failure :D )

Is the computer from the trany linked to the computer to the motor? Or is the throttle cable the only link?

At some point my 80 will not be worth the cost of rebuilding or long blocking a motor. I would guess it would be best to get a used motor and trany and throw it in.

Kurt, You can rebuild your own motor for less than $2500.

You can not use the 97 computer in a 94. To many things different including the air flow measurements etc etc.

Just swap the pan. The 95 has a crank sensor that the 94 does not have. Or you can just leave it on. However since the pan quite often leaks, it would make more sense to pull it, reseal and replace front and rear crank seals.

I second Christo's pan suggestion. In addition the sensor sometimes leaks and it is close to impossible to stop that leak without replacing the sensor. Earlier pan = no hole to leak from :D

So I can take a '95,'96 or '97 motor, swap out the pan and plug it into my computer?

I need to get this right.
Let me try this;
Lest say someone stole my motor. I now need a complete motor.

What would I need to do to get a 95 to 97 motor to work with my A442F trany?

It is easier to go from the 95-97 swap into the 94 than it is the other way. If you took a 94 motor and tried to put it into a 95-97 you would have swap the crank sensor into the proper postion on the crank which requires removing the timing cover. If going from 95-97 you really do not have to swap the pans, just not plug in the crank sensor. Use your 93-94 distributor, your current wiring harness and sensors (just to be sure you have the right sensor), You could use the intake manifold and injectors from the 95-97, the exhaust if you wanted to be legal would have to be change (only visual test). The motors backing plate that mounts to the tranny is the same. The conections are different on the tranny (more connections in one coupler). the computer int he 95-97 contains both chips for the engine and tranny. where in 93-94 you have two seperate computers.
I have conserdered swaping a wiring harness from a 95-97 to get the better computer and have looked at the conections in the tranny and have found it to be a slight problem that would not be a true plug and play. And also I would have to weld in a before and after cat O2 sensors. I currently do not have the time or energy to do it at this time, maybe some day. hope this helps, later robbie

In other words, It would be a lot of work to get a 95+ motor into a 94.

If I want a used motor a 94 would be the only plug and play motor that wouldn't require a lot of mods???

So I either rebuild or get a new short block from Cdan and hope my head can be rebuilt?

Sorry I was not clear Landtoy. As long as you are not using the OBDII computer and wiring harness from the 95-97 you would be fine, It is using the computer and wiring harness that would create a problem. For the other way 93-94 swap into a 95-97 it would be more of the same using the exisiting wiring harness and computer and then swaping hard parts to make it work ( oil pan, crank sensor, distributor). Then of course the HG in the 95-97, I would put a new one in with the engine out, makes it a lot easier). later robbie

According to the parts catalog the 93 to 97 distributors are all the same.
