Who is up for a 4x4 run up to Kelly Flats and Bald Mountain on Sat 6th Nov.
Expect to see snow on the Bald Mth side and we'll see how far we wanna go.

Only looking for long-wheel-base trucks so 80s and 60s only.
It will be a long day so want to keep the pace moving pretty quick.
As such having other 'types' of trucks just seems to slow us down (thats not to say we don't get 80s stuck in ruts (see Mark H. I didn't mention u !)

Will post on 80scool as well

Also anyone thats interested in hoping in and not running their rig (like newly acquired LX's) give us a shout

Don't know who that could be targeted at? Thanks Brendan, but its no fun ridding. I't will bwe a while till I can wheel the Lexus. Unkless you go somewhere that wouldn't damage the running boards. I still have the FJ40 for trails and I have gone with Nakman (Tim) on a few runs.

Keep me in mind. I eventually will convert it, but I have a few other things I have to pay for first.

Ken, wise move. I made the foolish move of slightly wheeling a '95 Cruiser I had, figuring I wouldn't damage the running boards...well that was a joke, one slight scrub and they were tweaked, never looked right, threw them out. So on my Lexus I pulled them off before it ever even smelled a dirt road.. :D Bring the 40, nevermind Brendan and his anti-40 agenda.. :D

Lal, you have a crafty knack for scheduling runs when I'm going to be out of town.. bummed I have to miss this one as well. We had a great time last Sunday, and should have a pretty decent turnout for the night run this Saturday.. all are welcome.

You think he will come Tim? After all, there might be some FJ40's there!

So where is this place (for future ref)?

PM Lal, he'll tell you forsure. I have been up there once with them before, all I remember is driving, then driving, then driving some more. It's somewhere West of Ft Collins, maybe a bit South of Ft Collins too, not sure, but it's a hefty drive from Castle Rock I will tell you that...but I'll be there... :D

Later,
Mark

Ok all u 80s dudes wanting to go play in the snow.

Looking to meetup at Ted's Place (just north of Fort Collins on intersection of 287 and Route 14 - Gas station, will meet in large car park) at 8:30am with a moving out at 9am.
See http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.ad...eds+place&state=co&zipcode=&search=++Search++

Coming:
Mark Brodis with Alia (80s mad from Chicago who is flying in for this special event!)
Robbie
Kumar via Kansas
Mark Huxley
Lal
Maybes:
James Yu (in that yellow thing! :)
David Mead (looking for a ride from Thorton)
Brad Steffens
Eric George (hop in?)

Kelly Flats is approx 30 mins in along Rt 14 (west). Ranger just indicated 1-2" snow at Kelly :)
We'll make a decision based on time, any breakages etc. if we'll do Seven Mile (FDR-225 coming back out) or continue onto Bald Mtn (FDR-517). Expect to see snow as we head up Bald and early this year (see enclosed email) had a blast 'playing around'.

Give me a call to confirm those that are coming or want lifts etc.

Yep, 80s MAD!! :D

Man I just did a map-it, 105 miles from my house to Ted's Place...sheesh.. :D

Any plans on meeting up after the run somewhere in Fort Collins for a meal or drinks?? I have to work that weekend, but should be home around 5pm and wouldn't mind seeing some old faces and meeting new ones.

don't forget my wife and dog ;)

I just hope it doesn't snow on I-70 (they tend to close it in eastern CO, western KS)

Got room for a funny looking 4-Runner?

I caught up with many of you on the Rising Sun run up Gillespie Gulch last weekend and would love to hit up Kelly Flats if there is space. I had the red 95 Runner. Not sure if I meet the wheelbase requirement, but it must be close. :D

Will snow make this impassible and is snow expected the whole way?

I would love to go on that outing if invited, we have been trying to get up there for several weeks now...

I live in Berthoud Co.

Thank you,
Rick..

I don't drive an 80 but I hope you guys know that Kelly Flats is no longer as nice as it used to be. On top of the mountain, they plowed a road straight through the meadow and built tons of houses up there. Makes me sad, I loved that place. You can still drive from the campground to the Pingree Hill road out of Rustic/Genn Echo but the majority of it is a grated road now. Also, if you plan on getting gas in Glen Echo, it burned down again. Not sure if they have rebuilt yet.

Ok, yesterday was a blast, had a great time...long day but definetly worth it.

Here are the pictures my friend Eric Kinne took:

Also a large thanks to Kumar and his wife Jenny for driving all the way from KC to go wheeling this weekend, and a huge thanks to Ali, who flew from Chicago just for this event...both crazy mofos IMO... :D

I had a blast as well - snow run, ~night run in the snow, and driving fast on the dirt(trying to keep up with Shawn & Robbie). Thanks Lal!

I second the crazy mofos comment... :)
