There is a small spot in the front corner of the side yard that is kind of useless due to its size and shape so over the years, we have turned it into a nice garden get away where flower, tomatoes, and berries are grown. We built a terrace cover above the garden and trained a grape vine to grow there and over the years has created a full 'roof" of cover which shields the plants below from the summer sun. I wouldnt of guessed a grape vine would grow like this one does but with the protection of the house from the west sun, it has prospered. We even get to eat grapes - until the birds figure out they are ripe by late August then it is a feeding frenzy.

My wife gets all the credit on this one - she is the one with the green thumb and the great ideas!

Your elevated grape vines give me some ideas for our courtyard - are they hardy? Do they require a lot of water? Looks nice!

Had to cover plants tonight , should've done it the last couple of nights

Me too. Main garden is covered and held up pretty well. My basil is in the open and took a beating.

It looks like basil. Keep it warm, basil doesn't fair well in the cold.

X2 - Basil

actually works well in a modified mojito (instead of the mint)

Murf, not sure if the birds are still enjoying your grapes but what works well with grapes are put the bunches in paper bags. Get bags that allow for the grape growth and slide the baby grapes in and use a couple bread ties at the top of the vine to keep the bag on there. This will keep the birds away and will allow the grapes to fully grow. We've been doing this for years with great success around harvest time. You'll end up with a lot of nice grapes.

Works great for Pomegranates too!

Nice! Is that a ginger Brittany Spaniel in the background?
