a 2F slow? i guess you have never driven a 3B powered 60...

No sir. I've driven 6x cruisers with that had 2F's, smogged and desmogged, a 3FE and a 1HZ-T. After driving the 1HZ-T, yes I now consider the 2F slow. Before that, I thought it was average.

I had a "back in High School" moment last week when some guy in an FJ Cruiser thought he could take me up a long hill from a stop light. He looked rather sad in my rear-view mirror. What a Yuppie.

Got to love those moments, but they are all the sweeter when your leaving the 350 behind with a 2F.

Something that takes some getting used to. Turbo's make boost based on load (exhaust heat), not solely on engine speed. Wind up a turbo engine while cruising down a flat stretch of hwy and look at how little boost it makes compared to when you're hard on it, lugged down, pulling a grade.

One of the reasons turbo's don't do much when you are in low range :)

Really nice actually..

want the turbo to work in low range then pick a higher gear, higher gear = load.
Mace, got a link to your build?
i have read Matt's build and although it is a nice proffesional build it is WAY out of my budget and i just want more power for towing the float up hills. this is a highway/work cruiser, not a playtoy or race car.

i admire all the work you have done Matt, congrats.

I have a ROTW in the 40 section.

All I did was slap an old Garret T4 turbo on a tired ass stock 2F.

Fun and games..

And I, the owner of the 350 Cruiser, would love every second of it for it's insane uniqueness! But I'm not holding my breath :) I would love to drive Mace's rig just to see what that's like. Then I could turbo the 350....

LOL!!
inferiority complex at its best...
you already have 2 more cylinders and you need a turbo? sheesh.

that is one nice thing about the old 2F, stock is low enough for a turbo.

yeppers..

Just an example,
Trollhole redid his 2F with all sorts of TBI and blinging stuff. Afterwards he went for a Dyno run. 100 RWHP.

I took a tired, old 2F and added a turbo. 145 RWHP with 40" tires and a poorly adjusted propane carb.

that is the thing, sometimes it is just best to go try it... either it works or it doesn't, if it doesn't then try something else.

Damn. I want a turbo.

My advice is to stay where you are. The 2f is a great motor for what it is. My 1st LC was a 40. I put a slightly built 350 in it. My Dad decided to out do me with his 40, 400 ci, 30 over, cam, racing pistons, rollers, holley 650 etc. the only thing its good for is pulling up to those little loud muffler cars and blowing exaust through their windows. Now I have 2 40's sitting in my barn I rarely even drive. I will never do anything more in any of my LCs other than stock 2f's. One of these days I'll get those motors out and replace back to stock. The 2f is real nice on trails, easy to use, add any more horse power and its too difficult to drive.

If I had multiple LC's I would love to have a fully de-smogged I-6...I mean nothing but the carb and a distributor w/pwr steering and A/C...throw all the emissions crap out. Since I can only have one toy for now...it has a GM V-8.
